Co Manager Update

CoManagers, Thank you for a job well done, thru the Holidays and the Year!

These changes are coming about after you have worked extremely hard long, hours and taken time away from your family through the Holidays! Also, after you have probably given up PTO and time off through the year as well.

This is very confidential Information, and all have been threatened that if there is a leak and they can find the individual, they will be terminated. WOW!! What transparency! Maybe the new leadership should learn the Culture! Respect for the Individual, be honest, forth coming and keep the open discussion environment. The UNVARNISHED TRUTH should work both ways and not just up! Maybe your Regional, Market or Store Manager should look to trust in you and tell you the truth if not is this the type of Company that you want to work for?

The Unvarnished Truth!!

  1. Meetings held last Friday with all Mkt Managers, Mkt Human Resource Managers and all Store Managers. (Remember the level of talent in these positions: Several have never run stores at the Market level, but will be making the decision for the future!)

a. Talent discussions were held on all CoManagers. Very subjective discussions and not a very

level set meeting. A lot of favoritism, and buddy system playing out.

b. Not all of the best were selected, a lot of good talent will be lost in this process and not even

be retained as assistant managers. What a drain on talent again.

c. CoManagers were banded within the following catagories:

RED - Not retained or gets immediate severance pay and no time to look for a job. If you

have a coaching then you will fall into this category.

YELLOW - You will get an option to demote to an assistant manager; or 60 days pay and

severence.

GREEN - You will be offered a position. It may not be in your current store; or 60 days pay

and severence.

  1. All Regionals held a conference call with all Mkt Teams, Store Managers, and CoManagers. Basically gave the WalMart talking points.

a. Not a long term position, must be actively applying for stores and has a 3 year longevity.

b. Store Volumes and placement of CoManagers:

$80 million to $90 million dollars in sales = 1 CoManager position

$90 million to $125 million dollars in sales = 2 CoManager positions

$125 million and above in sales dollars = 3 CoManager positions

  1. All levels of management have been through this process Divisionals, Regionals, Mkt Managers, and their counter parts in Asset Protection, Health & Wellness, and Human Resources. (Though most at the Regional level above were given preference options).

  2. All the 1700 Assistant Manager positions that will be added will be in Online Pickup and Grocery Pickup and will not be immediate.

  3. There were Regional Hiring events for assistant manager placement back in November and December. Why if they new that this was coming? This was not dreamed up after New Years.

  4. The week of Christmas there was information that came out in reference to the Policy change on Voluntary Demotion Request regarding Management. Wow there must be a lot looking to get out. Now this change.

You should always be prepared with a resume and the leave for a better opportunity. A lot will stay through this process and be caught up in the same process in future years. Use your time to better yourself and get out of this Company and go somewhere that you will be valued.

GOOD LUCK and WISH ALL WELL with the outcome and the process!!

Tomorrow is supposed to be the conversations. Has anyone heard anything? All is to be completed by Friday 1/26/2018.

Let’s get this over already!!!!

Anxiety is killing the individual, and family. Productivity is at its lowest during this time in the stores.

All involved should have started updating resumes and LinkedIn accounts for the possibility of the worst. Don’t hesitate to move forward and eliminate this stress and anxiety!

Lots of rumors and speculation swirling around. Two weeks gives people a lot of time to leak, gossip, or stir the pot, on top of those personally affected by this who must simply be miserable. Not how I would have handled it, but maybe they want to see how people react as a result. The livelihoods of individuals and/or their families hanging in the balance for two weeks must be agonizing.

Has anyone heard anything yet? Thank you for the post and please everyone keep it updated. Walmart should have already responded to the issues raised. I don’t know how many Comgr there are total but probably not near the 17000 visits.

It is not good for anyone to be out of a job, no matter the circumstances. Everyone has value to add. Interesting that you think there will be room for advancement with the amount of position cuts that are fixing to happen. Comanagers that are retained and offered an assistant manager position will have the advantage over you to move into any future Co positions.

Maybe you should consider moving on, since you could not get promoted under the old structure with even more positions available. I do not think that I would want someone with your demeanor on my team, which probably leads to why you haven’t been promoted.

I do wish you luck in your career. No matter what is currently happening, this is a people business.

If you have been a co manager for more than 5 years than you need to go. This position was temporary so that you can promote to a store manager to begin with. I feel bad but as a hard working assistant who knew all his stuff, when co managers would come to me and ask how to do things that were common knowledge and that they should know I don’t feel sorry. I can list 3 co managers in my 10 plus years at Walmart that knew what they were doing. The others were just wasting space for someone as myself who wanted to move up. Good luck to you all. If you were a good Co manager this is no shot at you. You others know who you are.

It amazes me that there is so little information put out on this from Walmart. The conference calls that were held 1/12/2018 stated that you can ask your Store Manager, or Market Manager about any questions that you might have. They continuously say that they do not know.

Simple answers on PTO and Severance should be able to be answered.

Below is information from the policies :

  • PTO will be paid out, in accordance with the policy, 5 days paid out when you exit the Company.

Severance is a big question: Policy reads as below but not sure if it is being offered.

  • If employed by Walmart for one year or more, you will receive as severance pay 2 weeks of weekly pay for each full year of your continuous service to Walmart plus 1 week of weekly pay for each full $20,000 increment of your base pay (including applicable differentials) as of the effective date of termination.

  • The total number of weeks of severance pay that you can receive will not be less than 2 weeks nor more than 40 weeks.

  • If another position is offered, and is within 50 miles of current location there will be no severance payout.

  • If offered a demotion you may have to find your own position as an assistant manager or another position in the Company, within a certain time period.

Meetings:

Supposed to be held this week.

Keep updates posted.

Good luck to all!

Honestly. Severance is music to my ears. I’m done with retail and have been done with Wally for awhile. This is a gift. Best way to leave with a nice pocket of coin and new opportunities.

Not for sure about PTO but it would likely be 5 days (1 week of pay) plus the required 60 days due to WARN law plus the WM severance policy. Either way if you are a co don’t sweat it, you were likely promoted for a reason. Stay positive, even if you have negative views of the company after this, never express them during an interview. Good luck brothers and sisters!!!!

It is truly sad that this is the way that you have to get information from a Company that brags about how well it takes care of and treats their associates. The Company could have handled this whole process alot better and with more respect for the individual. All Salaried Managers take heed, you could be facing the same type of treatment in the future. My advice is to pull together on a Facebook page or some social media and share information with each other.

Another major talent drain on Walmart will be some other Company's catch. Understand that it is just a job now not a career, look other places for growth and advancement. There will be very few opportunities for advancement in the future from the Asst Mgr level and to the Asst Mgr level. This is one reason why our most qualified hourly supervisors do not want to move up into management. Great example to set for the future leadership.

It is amazing how the Company has changed, especially under the last 2 CEO's leadership teams.

Good luck to all. Pull together and support each other since there is no support from above.

So in reading the severance policy on the Wire it doesn’t state anywhere in there that you get immediate severance and no time to look for a job, it states if you lose your position or job due to a restructure you are eligible for severance benefits. If you are eligible for severance benefits you will be given 8 weeks to look for another position in Walmart and that your HR is supposed to help you find one. Search Severance on the Wire.

Just wanted to say thanks to the folks who are risking their necks getting this confidential info out to us. As a current Co, my family and I have learned more here than from Walmart. The scariest part has been the waiting and unknown. Wishing you all much success on this journey!

Saw this and wanted to repost here to keep all post for CoManagers on this link for easier updates.

Thanks - @RiMIsjO-2lie - (hope you don't mind the repost)

Not true...get your facts straight.

If your position is eliminated you will receive 60 days salary and time to look for another position.

You are still officially employed during this time, although not working, and your time carries over past the 1st of February.

Therefore you will receive your bonus.

If the 60 days elapses and you have not accepted another offer within the company, you will sign your severance papers and receive the package and the payout (this is totally separate from your bonus).

Typically If you are offered a position within the company, even a lower banded position, and chose not to accept that position may forego your severance. You will still receive your bonus. So be careful about negotiating for another position. Understand the terms.

Many people are offered a lower position or the severance, your choice. Most people take the severance and parly their talent with the competition.

If you choose to stay with a new position there will be no severance payment made to you. Severance - to severe - to cut off - gone.

There is life after Walmart.

This is why people form unions within a company. This exact treatment. Walmart needs to go union to protect the people from the greedy Executives. It time for a Union to be in walmart. They do not care about their people anymore, Regardless of service time.

Very unfortunate and disappointing from a company of this caliber...Amazon is kicking their a-- but a terrible way to treat your biggest assets...it's been said several times above; such a talent waste - I'm sure Amazon will gladly welcome all of you!!!

Sorry for not including,

Thank you for helping the under performing stores in the markets along with the Academy stores. We really appreciate your help since they could not do it on their own and we could never get an Academy certified without you and your team.

You are being rewarded. Great Job!!

Not to mention Market Managers that have never ran a store. They are the ones making decisions, along with Market Managers that got their position because of someone the knew, or they would have never made it otherwise.

Another talent drain on the company, the store managers today most wouldn't have made it past assistant manager 15 years ago. Change in your leadership can mean you were a successful manager then you get a new supervisor and you are a poor preforming manager.

Why would they be different in structure? Managers are already paid more and usually have an easier sales/profit/cff plan.

What about complex stores. Will they have to follow the same structure?

So if they give them 60 days to find a position, they'd still get their bonus, correct? They'd still technically be employed and would have fulfilled the year requirement to get it. Also, if they don't find something within 60 days, is the option for severance still there or no?

Sounds like a good time to use PTO. You earned it, use it to get through the end of the year and get your bonus. It is sad to have to go to this measure, but what do you expect with the Company screwing you out of your bonus as well.

No bonus, go where they want, when they want. Hold the bonus over your head. Does this sound like Blackmail? The Biggest and most powerful company. And you hide all of this under new starting wages.

Will co managers get 60 days pay instead of there bonus and also get a severance package? Which I'm guessing the severance package will be 2 weeks pay for every continuous year of service? Hopefully if I'm in the yellow or red.

The store managers are having the talks on the 24th and giving the comanagers two days to decide the options given. If you take severance you won’t be offered bonus since you will be terminated before the full one year of fiscal year. (Very smart of them). If offered a demotion they will have to pay you your bonus since you’ll still be with the company. If wondering your amount for severance you can find it on the wire with the calculations needed to get an accurate amount.

Just different assignments on mgmt layout. amount of salaried managers same or more in some cases.

Salaried Mgr old structure was;

Store Mgr, Food Comgr, GM Comgr, Area A asst mgr, Area B asst mgr, Area C asst mgr, Area D asst mgr, 2 overnight asst mgr, TLE mgr, Produce Mgr, Meat Mgr, Bakery Mgr

New at 80 to 90 mil. Add Comgr over that;

Store Mgr, Comgr, fresh asst, grocery asst, consumables asst, apparel and home asst, ent and hardlines asst, tle asst, front end asst, ap asst, pick up asst, 2 overnight asst,

@RfIyZGR-kdo Sam's Club did eliminate Market HR within the last two years but market APM has not been eliminated as of 1/16/18. Ours was just in our club a few weeks ago! This is false information.

At Sam's Club APM was transiationed to regular assistant managers last year I believe. (Closing manager duties, assistant manager rotation, etc) maybe it has been two years not sure. Funny how changes usually hit Walmart then come to Sam's side. Now it looks like the other way around in this situation.
