Self-assessment

Has anyone else received a self assessment form lately? First time I have seen this. Could legacy Dell folks explain if this is the first step in a layoff decision process? I feel like I am on the hook. Insult to the injury is that they make you give 2 names who worked with you on projects and those names will evaluate your performance. To me, Dell doesn’t even trust its managers anymore.

Dell is a place where you work with someone f---ing brilliant at a non consultant level then work with stupid sh--heads who cannot understand simple calculation and conclusion at consultant/director level. Then you have a review that makes no difference because they look for behavior not brain.

My experience at Dell is the assessment is a formality ..... doesn't really have anything to do with how managers rate you. It is a good exercise for you to personally review what you accomplished which may be handy as you move forward in your career / next position.

1ode - You never worked at EMC then. I reported to as many as three matrixed managers at one time and great management was an EMC forte, as well as new asset integration. Dell does not have a great rep regarding company management. Doesn’t really matter now, does it?

Some people will try and twist everything to a conspiracy! Read your emails.... self assessment is part of the year end performance review.....everyone in the company got one....

we always had to do something similar in legacy emc through epas....

unlike EMC, Dell is not rigidly top to bottom approach, many times you work across the board for different managers and senior consultants. Your manager is just your cost center by name and not always the one paying for your development, mainly just salary. Yet they are the ones deciding whether to promote you or give you a sh--ty increment. Dell definitely trust its managers just to be fair to those team members that do far beyond their cube.

If anyone says untrue statements you can sue them personally and Dell... But I am not a lawyer...see a lawyer.

It’s so you can do the work for your manager when the yearly review comes out. They use it as input into the review process. Or, you can not do it and leave it up to them to remember all the stuff you did last year. That’s how it worked at EMC.
