This was just fear producing rumor ?
Bravo! Today is the day to start you job search. Indeed, Linkedin, even Craig's LIst have positions. If you want to stay in books, check out shelf awareness. to learn more about what other book sellers are doing. Today is the best day to start your search. As long as you work for follett, you'll be wondering if today is the day you hit your expiration date. Control your own destiny.
I was at Follett wholesale for 15 years and left for another opportunity. My life couldn't be better. My advice is take a deep breath, tell your spouse you love her/him and find another position. Do not sell yourself short, you have talents and the market couldn't be better. Check out opportunities on LinkedIn, speak with current/former trusted colleagues and seek the advice of a recruiter. It's work to find another position but the effort is well worth it. Life is short and in the end, at your eulogy, no one is going to say you made your "goal" every quarter, worked 12 hours days to complete your project and helped the Follett stock or dividend increase. For the past 5 years, Follett has told you this is a different company now with disposable employees. Isn't it time you believe them?
I have heard that only larger stores will be adding Ops Managers (adding, not replacing mgrs). Area Managers will probably only be added in a limited number of larger volume store groups. Most managers should come out intact as well. Only a limited number of satellite type stores will have ASMs rather than an SM. I don't think this March will be apocalyptic.
If you don't know true facts please don't spread rumors that will make us sweat it out. We all went through this 2 years ago when positions were slashed & hard working associates were thrown aside.
That's the first I'm hearing of this. But it would make sense, with the number of small volume stores we operate, to employ area managers. Any idea when this is gonna happen? Or if there's a certain type of store profile (like under 1M or 500k) that would be affected?
