Our store recently got a "new" associate dept manager. Come to find out he was a store manager and decided things were going south so bad he voluntarily stepped down taking a dept manager position to get out of the line of fire. He said the company is getting ready to make some big changes and they were for the most part, not good! They will be combining depts and dept mngrs will now have 2-3 depts. He said the level 7 depts will keep managers and level 6's will start combining by years end. They plan to eliminate approx 20% of level 6 dept managers. So if you are a level 6 dept manager, you might want to look for level 7 soon.

"They" can tell you they stepped down to save face but under performing store managers were red/yellow and green banded like CO's. Yellow were not given options Co were and had to go hourly and will be the new norm for ALL salary that want to step down when the heat gets turned up on them for being slackers. Nao DM's are not getting cut.... only ones that flunk Core or Leveling at an Academy. Using technology to replace repeatable work that requires precision and putting all impacted associates oout in front of customers to serve and raise the bar on true customer service which the company has not had for decades. All stores and associates guilty of being work driven and not taking the time to meet, greet or help EVERY customer they pass and that's the only way to compete with Amazon who does not have 50 plus years of instilling culture and beliefs in worked. EVERY single person typing on this site that has something to say about the company is blaming the corporation without self reflection on how you took things for granted in your daily routine and work that now you want to blame everyone but your self. Kind of like a kid crying and apologizing after he gets in trouble......only sorry he got caught and punished without thinking morally during the process!!!! Say what you want about my post here and go code brown avoiding, defending and denying that you have any blame in your own misfortune! I can give a sh--less what you reply.
The same thing happened in my store. He started in my store and worked his way up to store manager. He was a SM for several years. He just came back to my store as a garden dept mngr. He chose to step down to dept mngr because he said that position has a better chance of surviving. He was afraid of the changes coming and thought it better to step down than be either let go all together or put somewhere he didnt want to be. Hes a great guy and hard worker. Hope it works out for him.

Why step down to a dm when their positions will be eliminated by 2019!
