Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

It's sad to see Intel lose the young generation, and giving the impression of being another Westinghouse

When walking by JFCC on Friday, I saw a lot of high school students. It turned out to be the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) for the Beaverton and Hillsboro school districts. According to Wiki, ISEF is the largest pre-college science and engineer event across the globe. Seeing so many teenagers so passionate about science and engineering really brought me some sense of joy and hope, but not for too long, because after next year Intel won't be the sponsor. The official reason is to re-direct the money to events like Hackathon or Maker Faire, which are more relevant to Intel business. According to New York Times, BK's private words are "the science fairs were the fairs of the past and had become tilted to life sciences and biotechnology, not primary fields for Intel". But, CRB disagreed, "you might instead conclude that Intel is a company of the past, just like Westinghouse when they dropped sponsorship of the national science fair in 1998. ... all of science has become data-driven and computational, so Intel has a stake in nurturing youthful innovators in all scientific disciplines, including the life sciences." It's sad to see how low Intel management has become. (See the full New York Times article here https://nyti.ms/2lNQMqy. To those against re-posting news, I'm more cared about the future of my country than your Intel layoff specifics.)

We didn't seem to actually support actual maker faires and hackathons (with real makers and hackers) even when we had low-end CPU platforms.

IoT and Maker events of Intel talking heads and slides about how Intel is "winning IoT" - no shortage of support for that!

"Is Intel even sponsoring Maker Faires anymore? They've just about killed any low-end CPU that would apply to those types of gatherings."

No it's not sad. Don't give a crap.

I'm here for layoff info and not lamenting about some corporate entity that doesn't care about you or me.

You‘re cared about the future of your country? How about learning basic English then?

And this is a layoff site, not a care-about-the-future-of-my-country site.

ISEF projects are mostly done by mentors/coaches/doctors and students assist them. That is why they are so advanced. Whereas at maker faire & hackathon, students actually do most of the work.

Of course removing sponsorship for this is a another casualty of the path to 300.. Also will provide more lucrative bonuses to all the KoolAid drinking VPs..
