Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Anyone aware of the Qcom layoff 70 rule going around?

Rumor has it if you are over 50 and have been employed with Qualcomm for over 20 years that your names will automatically be added to the layoff list.

Talk about an age discrimination lawsuit. If it is true, I hope all of those employees affected team up and sue Qualbrodcomm for the biggest number they can collectively come up with.

Usually what's done is people who qualify are offered an enhanced "early retirement" package which includes additional weeks severance and possibly other retirement benefits. It's purely voluntary as a way of reducing the number of involuntary layoffs. Done right it's actually a good thing.

Not happening. False rumor.

No idea if this is true. I think offering an incentive for early retirement is not discriminatory if it's optional. If it's mandatory I think that's a legal issue.
