Thread regarding Noble Energy Inc. layoffs

More layoffs are needed

the company still needs to reduce overhead. Way too much finance, legal, HR, government relations, and IT.

I know this is not a popular opinion, but I agree with @RML5xtx-4gsv completely. We still have too much dead weight in plenty of departments. We just need a round of layoffs that will focus on solving that issue, and not look to get rid of better paid experienced employees who are actually contributing.

The “illiterate butthurt loser deadwood” are all safe from layoffs. They’re in management. I’m talking about you JD, DN, DO and RB.

There will be more cuts. No way to avoid it. Noble loaded up too much on overhead and people. There is an unhealthy ratio of managers/directors to worker bees. Too large of a support staff.

However in Noble fashion, the choice of who to keep and who to let go won't be the best decision. No doubt there will be some in GOM that get saved and moved to other areas. And there will be some in other areas the will be let go to get the headcount right. Just because you do not work GOM or because you do good work does not make you safe. Sad to say. But, it is just the way it is

4bcy - Good question - why is DS still there? Is his direction from the board to destroy an 85 year old company? If so, he is doing great. Sad.

Canada’s a talking point for DS. Something he can show the analysts to prove he’s got an eye on the future, LOL. It’s also a dream for JD and his NV clowns. He should have been run off a long time ago, instead no chance of accountability for at least another 3 years. Sweet for them, s#cks for GOM.

If you are over 50, work, a woman, know more than your supervisors and managers, and have good ethics, you are doomed. Never mind the woman bit. Either gender and you are toast unless you brown nose enough.

So why chase offshore Canada? A massively expensive and hazardous location. BP’s website says they won’t even start drilling till 2020. If a discovery it will have VERY high dev cost and several more years to prod. High negative cash flow for years. Another swing for the fences like Falklands?

The GOM was capital heavy upfront. Those wells would produce for a decade. So the lifting cost were low. Didn’t have to keep pumping money in to see rates or a return. Losing the GOM, will hurt us indeed.

Losing the GOM will hurt. What I don’t get is the expensive acreage off Newfoundland with BP. Noble, BP and icebergs, now that’s a winning combo...

3xpz: I am not sorry. My post came out exactly the way I intended it to. No matter. Yes, there will be more layoffs here at Noble. Once again they’ll target older employees and those that are not politically favored. Meanwhile, the incompetent managers who arrogantly screwed this company up will be safe. That’s the Noble way. For those working the GOM, I am sorry to say this, if you aren’t currently looking for a job you should be.

Former employee here.........age discrimination was alive, well, and planned at NBL. Believe or not if you want. Go somewhere you are valued.

2tyi: Get over yourself. This forum isn’t a CV, regulatory filing or PR release. It’s an informal info share site. No one gives a sh-- when another poster doesn’t waste time getting their spelling and syntax perfect, it’s the content that matters. In this case the poster validated that age discrimination is happening at Noble. If you really feel the need to exercise your editing skills I suggest you do so on Noble’s website. Lots of problems there. Douche!

2vmk: anyone who doesn't know the difference between "they're" and "their" does not belong at NBL.

This very true. I was laid-off be Noble in late 2015. I was employed there for six years. Yes in my fifties. I still have all of my performance evaluations. Everyone of them was top notch. Didn’t matter... made too much money... too old and was laid-off. Noble does not value experience. They’re strategy is highly paid management and bunch of inexperienced millennials in supporting roles. It’s a backwards poorly run company. Fortunately I hooked with a far superior company who does value my experience and is willing to pay for it.

“...not look to get rid of better paid experienced employees”

Are you joking? That’s what layoffs do! Bean counters have trouble assigning value to experience, hence layoffs are always based on the one thing they can quantify: cost. The older, expensive heads will be at the top of the list. Fear not if you are younger and less costly. The lawyers will insure some of you are included. They need to avoid the appearance of age discrimination. The only ones who are safe are management. Shamefully, they are the ones who should be cut. SMH
