70 rules has got me. Is this just qcom or pretty much industry common? if i knew, I would get out already.

Cannot use this in the USA
45 old + 15 years of service are main target most of cases. It is under age discrimination because it adds the years of service. This is the whole reason why bay area is better off because you can switch jobs easily to get away from it.
And yes 70 rule is pretty much rule of thumb for every hr in industry.
If you are in the U.S., I would not worry about it. There is Age Discrimination protection in our labor laws, and QCOM HR is very aversive to the potential of lawsuits from a layoff. If you are indeed targeted because of your age, you might be in for an even bigger payday when you find the right lawyer.
