Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

best place to work in America

walmart has gotten some bad press lately but I think with the new starting wage more associates will be happier. if you made 9 an hour, your pay if you are full time, which most associates are, will go up 160 dollars a pay period. the insurance is comparable to any other company. and the maternal and paternal leave and adoption assistance are UNHEARD OF in retail. walmart is quickly becoming the best place to work in America. plus all the bonuses and other raises we all receive and the core beliefs and culture are AMAZING. I have worked here for a year and they are giving us all these awesome incentives just to work for them. I don't think an employer who does all

this FOR their workers would nefariously lay people off. they are looking out for the WHOLE of walmart. it's lame that a few out of LITERALLY MILLIONS of associates lost their jobs, but it's for the greater good of the company. which I appreciate. walmart is an excellent employer with endless possibilities for advancement and a LOT of interesting opportunities to better your life. All I hear is old timers complaining about how Sam Walton cared about his associates and would be angry about all the change that THEY PERCEIVE are bad. and the truth is that he WOULD be angry. not because these changes hurt long term associates, but because these changes and raises are expensive and don't have to be done. he was a miser himself and wouldn't have given us anything. while STILL making the same cuts.

With all thee issues going on at walmart And you have the balls to post such a statement. You must be in the home office instantiating all these changes and lying to get some one to believe you.I have worked for this hardship employer for 20 years and it's not what you describe.Quite thee opposite. How about the new hires making 11.00 hour then finding out they have a 20 hour week and are now looking for A real job.Haw about the long time associates getting there time cut to the point 20 30 hours a week and losing there insurance or starving to keep it.Just this week A lady in our store went to the pharmacy to get her medication only to find out it had been canceled because she wasn't getting enough hours to keep it.Associates some don't have lunch money.Would be nice if we could have a drop food and clothes box at the entrenches to help them out. This makes me sick to read this nonsense. Amazon will kick wiamarts A$$$$$ Guess a lot of Co's are making there way there

That's great if you're happy with your job. Maybe it's the best job you ever had. Come back and talk to us in 10-15 years and tell us what you think! Wal-mart is not the company that Sam built and with all the changes no one knows from day to day if their jobs are secure. Good luck

You’re part of the “new.”

You are not a veteran!

Wait until you get at least some years under your belt. Big laugh!

$11 per hour times 40 is $440. Multiply that by 52 and you get $22,880. Still poverty wages. And that is IF you get 40 hours a week. At 32 hours a week which is more realistic is $18,304. And those numbers are before taxes are taken out. I don't know anyone that can afford benefits with that kind of income. And you have to maintain a certain level or hours to even qualify for benefits. Most stores rig it against the slave, oops, I meant employee to even get their required hours to even be eligible for benefits.

Sounds like an ideal paradise to work at.

Just wait till you've put

your blood, sweat, and tears, literally, into a job you were told would be a fantastic career, only to be left unemployed and wondering wtf happened! The day will come when you feel secure in your job, then wham...No more job! I've worked for this company 26 years. I've seen it all. I unfortunately live in a small town so unless I travel an hour each way, I'm stuck until the ax comes for me. I know at some point it will!

Oh to be a newbie & blinded by the light. Old timers know a thing or 2 you buckroos would love to know. 1st & foremost the culture & company created by Mr Sam was all about change. He loved change & was always studing retail thru the eyes of competition- across the globe. Change for us old timers was like drinking water on a regular basis. He said this is what we ar doing now to help the customer & we rallied around to do it. He listened to Associates in the stores - he knew they were the front line for the customers. He cares for HO folks but only such that they knew they were 2nd to all in the field - distribution/ trucking / stockers/ cashiers / CSM - we knew in the HO we did not make money but pure overhead to the P&L. What we old timers now are yelling about is the culture that was us no longer. Outsiders run the biz & they are intent to earn $ while leaving both talent & consumers behind. The Waltons checked out / SM is a puppet who will last as long as Wall Street gives the nod. Otherwise is on to the next. And the next will be someone totally new to WM. Consultants run their data reports & that’s how the ship is steered. Where functions can be outsourced, they will be. Where technology can do a humans job, it will. All the best newbie in this new WM. May you keep your ruby shoes.

10 or even 50 thousand IS A FEW when there are over 2 MILLION associates

Totally not true !! Each store has to maintain a level of 60% PT associates in the store. You are only qualified to participate in the leave if you work a certain amount of hours in a year. So you saying most associates are full Tim is not true. Everyone that is hired is hired part time. You are also required to complete computer based learning in a period of time when not competed you will be terminated.

It wasn't "A few" OP, and how dare you try to minimize something like this! I wonder how you'd feel if it was you who was laid off, and some insensitive jerk like yourself said this. Of course, that never crosses your mind because you're completely self centered.

Oh and about those pay increases. You're about to discover the magic of tax brackets.

Fool, the govt will take half of your increase and you'll blow the other half on stupid stuff, because that's how it always goes.
