Either way, if Broadcom acquires Qualcomm and Broadcom performs synergistic merges or if Broadcom does not acquire Qualcomm and Qualcomm has to do some major cost reductions. So just focus on your work and don't get distracted on how or when you get laid off.

For the older long-term engineers who now work under titles they no longer deserve, I recommend trying to get on the lay-off list. Packages for someone making $200k salary with twenty years in the company tend to be quite good. Especially if they vest all RSUs. You could walk with two years salary and take your time looking, or retire early if you’ve invested well over the years and haven’t ratcheted up your lifestyle too much.

Simply telling people to "stay focus on your work" and "together we are stronger" send very selfish ask from managers who put the organization in today's situation. People should ask themselves what we are working for? To make a living and provide for our family. People should sharpen their resume and LinkedIn. Go interviews and see what's out there. When you see there are better options to provide your family, you will never look back. You can do all these without impact your current tasks. It will help you focus when you find out there are more options. Good luck.

Or, alternatively, don‘t be an idiot and start applying for a new position already now if your job is in danger. Perhaps that‘s better than „focussing on your work“ and „not getting distracted“ and pretending that you have no influence on what is going to happen to you, like OP.
