The reason b&n have lowered the staffing so abruptly is to:
Increase the productivity of the parttimers and the remaining managers. You need stupid people to keep the ships together while the management golden parachutes out with their stock before March 1st. Usually, a company that has too much inventory after christmas, will push it out on the floor, to sell it at a discount, to raise alot of cash the higher ups can divide for bonuses. They will announce a large chunk of store closings, employees will be offered stay on incentive bonuses. As your store winds down to the last two or three weeks, they will let you go before you get that bonus. You will be out of a job, with 8000 other people who are at your same skill level, and they need a job too.
Take charge of your own destiny, don't show up at b&n anymore. Call and get on with a temp agency, network with family and friends, Uber or Lyft in your spare time...hell even pet sit or house sit for extra cash. They ALL will make more money then what you are making now. If you haven't finished school, fill out your FAFSA, go back and get a degree in ANYTHING. You will be considered for a job first, if you are in school, or in the process of completing school, before anyone else. Believe me, I tried the hard way. It is soul crushing to watch it die...turn away...save yourself and your family.
