Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Stress Levels

Although everyone is stressed right now, some are more stressed than others. Of course those laid off are more stressed, despite utterly silly comments saying they are "the lucky ones" and nonsense like that.

Yes, how lucky, they no longer have an income and are squarely looking at financial ruin when their severance runs out.

Anyway, I'm stressed but not as stressed as some others are.

Why?

I don't have a 6 year car payment, big mortgage, or racked up credit cards. I can hunker down and hold on much longer than someone who has all those things, and I have the option of accepting a much lower paying job if need be, because I could survive on a much lower income.

If nothing else, 2008 should've been a hard lesson for folks, if not in their own life, but seeing what happened to others. Sadly, it was not, and today most people are racked up with debt and therefore when something like this happens they're far more stressed than they would be had they made better financial decisions.

You are partly right, I was laid off last week BUT I do consider myself one of the lucky ones for not having to deal with that toxic workplace anymore. I am not facing financial ruin when the severance runs out, in fact, I have many options, I can accept a lower paying job, or no job or just retire in my mid-50s. Like you, I was always careful money, with debt, never had credit cards balances, have a modest house, a 10 year old car that I don't worry about, an old iphone etc etc...if anything 2008 was the opportunity of a lifetime to buy stocks at drastically reduced prices which I did, and just recently with the stock market run up I unloaded many of them and made a tidy profit. Its all about choices in life and I valued personal freedom over "stuff" and the option to be able to walk away from the corporate plantation at any time.
