What's up with the new title "Sales and Inventory" for former Merch Mgrs ?

Does anyone know why the MM title changed to "Sales and Inventory" and what that means for them going forward. I know my MM has been in the back doing receiving all week, since they let the RM go and the other one has been up at the register since they let the HC go. Is that how it's going to be from now on? Are they even really a manager? I'm confused and nobody's talking about it.

nobody at the management level is saying much at my store either, outside of my SM who's been pretty decent about the information and all and one ASM who has been at least pretty upfront about everything. I'm not sure what the title change means and in fact this is the first I've heard of it as my MM's have not been really saying much about what's happened and how it affects them. For what it's worth, I think different stores are handling the situation differently when it comes to the receiving end at least. I am the store shelver and so far this week, we've had 1 MM, 1 ASM, myself and 1 other part timer basically taking on the role of receiving with none of us being able to devote more than a few hours to it each day. Although that works in terms of at least getting things processed and out the door, the long term problem with that situation is that, well, basically nobody is in charge of the back room anymore and so inevitably it will become a mess. Part of the problem is that when this happened, schedules for the next few weeks had already been done and thus it's hard to change on the fly so to speak. I'm hoping that some degree of stability will happen when the schedules catch up at least in terms of having someone back there on at least a semi-regular basis (which makes my job as shelver soooooo much easier). we'll see.
