It's been five years since I last applied for jobs and I was surprised to find one health care facility requires permission to get a consumer credit report on job applicants. Not just a criminal background check and fingerprinting, but a credit score. I've never run into that before. What is that about? Can they really do that, and why? Surely that's crossing a privacy boundary from employer to potential employee. I mean, I haven't even been asked to interview yet. Has anyone else run into that?

All employers can ask for it, it is one of those things to see what “kind of person “ you are...they also check your online presence, so be sure to set your filters on sites such as Facebook to private
Even other employers can run credit checks and also check your on line profiles, so set your settings to private....they are looking for the “type of person” you are, and they use it routinely.

Oh, so maybe a VA contract or something like that? Thank you, I appreciate your response. That was very helpful.
If they have government contracts they have to do a credit report. I've talked to someone in Humana government buisness about this before. That's why Humana keeps the government contracts a separate division, so that they don't have to do the intense background check with credit report on all employees.
