Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Happy valentines

I really hope that at this point, even people who might not be linked to the rumor mill online have friends and coworkers to fill them in. I hate to think of people going home to their partners tomorrow, or planned couple celebrations etc, and having to tell them that they got fired that day. I know there’s never a good time for layoffs but to have the cutoff for it literally be a holiday? And not some piddling Presidents’ Day firing, but one that is so widely celebrated. F---ing a.

Yeah and if you are reading the bn news snippets "Customer service will not be affected" who do they think they are kidding. With no cash lead managers will be running to the registers ever 5 min. And 9 times out of 10 they are the only ones on the book floor they let go their most dedicated, knowledgeable , experienced people and kept a bunch of part times who really don't have a clue because they were never trained correctly in the first place. The whole atmosphere has changed. Loyal customers will see this as a bad thing. Those who are left will be burdened with endless tasking that this company just can't seem to move away from. Why do you need to change end caps every week and redo every fixture once a month . What difference does it make to get only 3 shipment a week when the ones you do get are doubled. Not to mention you still get a ups shipment every day and now you don't have a experienced receiver. Would not the best course of action been get rid of your (lazy, call out every other day, no I can't come in to cover for the person who called out, let me stand around and talk to this other lazy person so I don't have to do any real work) and just reassign the one who do care, who want to go the extra mile, the ones that can multi task, the one who have invested their time, energy and love for the job they were doing. You screwed this one up big time barnes and nobles!

We are down to 2 kids leads..Every one else full time gone. This is not a rumor. What we had to offer, which was valuable knowledge and great customer service, is now gone. Now there is less reason to visit our bricks and mortar.

I mean I really hope most managers are conscious of these sort of things. But apparently corporate was trying to make them keep their employees quiet about the firings until Wednesday when everyone who was being let go would know. So obviously that didn’t work because people who are let go and escorted out for no reason don’t care about protecting the company from a bad reputation but they had planned to have Wednesday which is the holiday be the last day of layoffs.

We had 3 fired yesterday and 1fired today. Who knows about tomorrow? But we are down to a kids lead, toys and games lead and cafe lead. Thats in addition to management and part timers. Our hcs and digital lead are gone and now the rc manager as well. But we have 2 asm's. So we will see what tomorrow brings.
