So, my store did end up losing 4 people (2 head cashiers, 1 digital lead, 1 RM), most on Monday. I've talked to 2 off them and they seem to be ok although somewhat in shock as one would expect. The remaining staff--which is to say the now almost exclusively PT staff (most of which are college aged with a few exceptions including myself, as a shelver)--is adjusting but slowly to the reality. The café lead is beginning to shop around out of a fear of the next round of layoffs. Haven't had a chance to talk to my children's lead. A few of the college-aged PT have decided that this is not the place for them and have talked about leaving. The store management on the whole is saddened and upset by the way that this all came down and the positions they were put in. For now, I am sticking around but needless to say, I'm beginning to update that resume because I fear that this is the beginning of the end for the store. Our sales, while near the top in the district, are not particularly well although the store's lease was just resigned last year so perhaps we will survive what is sure to come, i.e. store closings which are sure to happen the first quarter. My thoughts and prayers go out to those of you who were laid off and I want you all to know that you will be missed, both as colleagues and as valuable employees.
