Dreaded Call Received While on Vacation

I also WAS a receiving manager for 10 years. I was on vacation when I got a call from the store manager this morning who "needed to speak with me face to face", at which point I figured out what was going on and asked "Are they eliminating the receiving manager position?".

He stated that both receiving manager and head cashiers positions were "going away" immediately and then explained the severance package.

I figured I'm not going to drive 30 minutes to be told I don't have a job anymore.

Before the call, I was just trying to figure out how to get the returns low before inventory!

Guess not my problem now...

@RIUGZXA-ecc I was offered the chance to re-apply to any open positions (which would be under 30 hours, no benefits), but no option to continue employment with the company. I do not know who is going to be in receiving or how they are going to deal with the situation. You, as a shelver will be OK, they only got rid of receiving managers, head cashiers, and all leads except cafe and kids. I really am curious to see how they are going to be able to manage the backroom at my (old) store, as they were stretched thin to begin with. I wish my friends there the best of luck in making it work, but I don't think corporate understands how vital the receiving manager position is to a successful store.

So as a FORMER RM, as of today, my SM called me in the morning, told me I’m gone. And my roommate is gone too. Oh, and I’m having surgery tomorrow for damaged shoulder... yay for extra stress!

just curious--were you given any option to go to part time at all? was the position just eliminated? if so, who is in charge of receiving? I'm a shelfer so my day off today (and no phone call which I guess is good news) so I have no idea what's going on yet.

@RIUGZXA-wpm I was told I would receive one weeks pay for each year I had worked and would also receive something in the mail.

Letting us all go RIGHT BEFORE inventory is a BAD move. But, hey, that's what the big man wants to do. So, I feel sorry for my coworkers that are left---they are going to be the ones feeling the cuts and are left to deal with it.

I was working on the returns this morning when they told me. It was nice of them to let me work for an hour before telling me..... Has anyone else noticed that the paid time off section in the HR access is not working ? Interesting .....
