Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Who's next??

So, receiving managers, head cashiers, and all other leads (except kids and cafe) are gone.

My question is: How much longer will the kids and cafe leads last? Who's next? When is the next round of layoffs because this can't be it; it would be naive to think so.

One of my store's ASMs told me the kids lead is pretty secure, but it'll probably change to sales lead. Supposedly because it's now the only ladder for internal development. But that is dependent on the company even wanting internal development, cause you don't need it if the company's going down

If your store still has two ASMS, I would expect one of them to get cut in the next round...and I guarantee there will be a next round. I was told that they consider children's leads valuable because of handselling, but if they were so willing to cut the head cashiers who drove membership sales, I don't see how children's leads could be considered safe in the future.

Honestly I'd be shocked if those jobs still exist by the end of the year. This looks so much like a last ditch move by people who don't understand what the strengths of the company are. If they are getting rid of the receiving managers I can't imagine that kids or cafe will last very long... it's become obvious that having specialized knowledge vital to running of the store is not going to protect people's jobs. They won't want to be paying benefits to anyone.

At this point, I think they should just admit that they're losing money and probably close to being bankrupt. They're dragging things on, claiming that they have "better business models" for the future, when in reality, they have no idea what they're doing. Nothing that they are trying is helping; it's actually making things worse. They're digging their own grave. I wouldn't be surprised if entire stores started closing by the dozen next...
