I reported to my shift as head cashier today after being asked to come in early only to be told within the first hour that I was being laid off and my position was being eliminated. I was completely blindsided and was told I would be offered a severance package but given no details on when/how to obtain it.

Grand... so I'll be receiving my severance package the day after my bday.... Happy Bday to me.
That's correct @gwe - the severance checks will be delivered to us on Tue 2/20
I was told I will receive my severance package by Tuesday of next week.
I was told that my severance package will come in the mail next week. I asked for documentation or any type of paperwork but was told by my manager that I was not allowed to view the letter that was sent from the Corporation.
Going on all over the nation since late 2016, but you won't hear it in the media or from Govt, which tells us "Everything is awesome!"
Yes, that's what they do when things are bad....they lie.
Sorry to hear this - it's really sad to see things end this way. We had an outstanding employee who was laid off in a similar fashion today - she had over 15 years of experience and was by far the best worker I know of. She is a single mother, three kids - single source of income. This is a sad day for all of us...
