Need for QA organization... ??

In the era of declining revenues and advent of automation technologies like never before.. does one need army of test engineers and worst QA managers ? Time for Dell to introspect?

Because outsourcing brings a business locking problem. Pure outsourcing is dangerous to Intellectual property. Depending on the outsourcing company the quality is questionable and at the same level of some morons employed.

Almost all Development managers directors VPs don't have any clues about how to write a "Hello World" without google, most of the principal engineers fits in the bill, it is a practice in team to outsource the work or hire the consultants to do the job, or spend some money privately to finish the job in time

So why do we need a Dev organization, why don't just outsource everything?

Is there any team other then NDC systems test qa in the whole Dell in USA or anywhere in the world where everyone is manual GUI testers who cannot write “Hello World” in any programming language and still hold principle and senior qa titles.

Dell can cut 100 plus QA in NDC and can still deliver quality products. Dell is paying millions for these substandard, under skilled QA with no work and no contribution for years.

For VP’s don’t fall for fake features and useless releases, spend some time and look into release notes which tells customers of all know issues and advising them not to use new features. There is no quality, ask any customer support. It’s a successful pyramid scheme in NDC and it should be exposed.

@RFoMmzY-1icg Funny part is they don't spare developers, after many years of hardwork you will realize that your promotion was taken away by a QA guy in the name as he managed a bigger army of testing rats. the recipe for the logic is still kept in secret and a patented process only found in Dell, in that way you will see many inappropriate people sitting in different positions and promoted based on s---ing skills and oral jobs.

It shows the clear picture about Dell and what is going on inside, Technically It's rotten from inside out.

QA colluding with Dell happens everywhere very much in the US. I have had innumerable experience when shipping product. Product behavior is variegated and there are multiple perspectives. Typically QA teams have less technical and product knowledge than those who develop the product and they can be easily molly codded and forced to accept conclusions.

In low cost countries it is not uncommon for QA to collude with dev to hide bugs and white wash the real status. All they care about is pay cheque? Who cares about the product?

QA engineers invariably report the correct status..QA managers manipulate it to serve their selfish interest. As QA managers don't have any hands on skill they are the bunch of insecure morons who won't hesitate to bend it backwards to save their job.

if there's a place where Excel Styling is a must, QA is the place. processes aren't important... numbers are, and if it can be presented in fancy font with cool colors... that's awesome. is the only place colors are most important than numbers

QA organizations in bigger companies are known for inefficiencies and place where most of the management is highly political and corrupt. You will rarely find any second level or higher level QA manager worth his job. Look around.

Funny you should mention that, because given my observations over the past few years, the answer is a resounding YES. Dell needs decent QA -- and I qualify that with decent. There may be an army of them in place, but their work product is so horrible, other people have to put in hours and hours of work doing their work for them, clarifying points for them, writing their test cases for them, executing scripts for them, and basically doing everything QA is paid to do. Dell is definitely not getting what they're paying for.

Dell desperately needs QA.

Just not the QA it has now.

Well... given the quality of goods and services Dell sells, the answer is yes. Methodologies can be improved, QA techs may need better training ( possibly along with longer stays: whenever someone becoms adept at a technology, they tend to either leave for another company or move on to another role ) andhigher incentives to stay in the current role, actively mentoring newbies. A company can offer as much training as it thinks techs require, but in the end, mentoring is the key to improve those teams effectiveness.

Same goes with support ( hardware and soft ): it is next to impossible to reduce those roles to just reading troubleshooting flowcharts. Again, it takes time to train those people so that they gain actual experience and become able at finding the real source of problems ( not just putting band-aids on the symptom). And, with their help and feedback, engineering can actually work on what needs to be improved.

With that said, needless to say that I totally disagree with this heading comment. And no, I do not work for QA at Dell.
