Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

US grade level distribution

There are about 50k BB in US.

Do the grade levels follow a bell curve?

Gr7 in the middle?

Gr3 and Gr 12 at the ends?

No matter how smart you are... if you are not bootlicking, you will get the boot eventually.

I was of the view that that is not the case but it's the harsh reality.

If you are from intel, to outside world it becomes very hard to convince that you are smart.

"Are we helpless to do anything about it?"

I'm afraid so.

The group that I was in ran through half-a-dozen senior external hires in under two years. That's probably $200K in signing bonuses alone for people who are - to a man - now all gainfully employed at Intel customers and competitors.

The manager who oversaw this debacle? Still at Intel. As is the only person in the group who had zero technical skills, zero management or leadership skills and was known for lying and throwing peers and subordinates under the bus. She's now in charge and has been promoted.

I thought coming to Intel with obvious achievements and credibility from the outside world would make a difference. It only made me a target.

@2jlx

You hit the nail on the head. I was hired at Intel a few years ago and had the same realization. Are we helpless to do anything about it?

There have to be others in our camp? I wish we could find them and build a coalition. Call it the change or be fired movement. The rest if the world does not give a sh-- about Intel, and they never will until we fix this problem of corporate self-centered culture.

"Most of Intel 20 year veteran internal GR8-10 should be terminated. Not even laid off with a package. Dumbest lot of people I've come across."

Coming to Intel from outside, I was shocked at how little people knew about customer needs and real tech and industry trends. I incorrectly thought that's why they hired me.

Senior, veteran Intel people are NOT dumb about working at Intel. It's most folks' only real skill: going along to get along and survive in the massive bureaucracy that is Intel. It's really all they know.

Skill in internal networks and processes and lack of knowledge about what's going on outside of Intel creates a uniquely arrogant and ignorant workforce at Intel. More so the higher up they are.

Always judgemental about experienced people hired from outside who come from better work. environments. Most of them were seniors before coming into Intel and ended up in same senior levels in better companies after leaving Intel.

......What is there to indicate that internal GR8-10 inside Intel are well qualified and deserving of it. - getting promoted through buttlicking and brownosing, being buttwipes.

Interesting: GR8-10 hired from outside rarely last 2-3 years. Does it mean they were hired at the higher grade that they were qualified?

Thats probably why grades 8 to 10 hired from outside rarely last beyond 2-3 years.

You can also get hired into Intel at a higher grade. But beware. The knives are out for you unless you ally yourself in support of a someone in the existing power structure and they don't perceive you as a threat.

Good luck with that.

Imagine a pyramid...like Egypt.

Many lower grades 3/5/6 at the bottom half.

Middle grades 7-8 in the 3rd quartile.

Higher grades 9-13 in the top quartile.

Only way to be promoted up the pyramid is for people above to leave.
