Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Any actual layoff info?

I don't mind all the talk about Intel's shares, Qualcomm, and whatnot, but it seems that those discussions have swallowed the talk about actual layoffs.

So I was wondering, are there any new rumors about any incoming layoffs? Or is the focus on other subjects a good sign that we are safe, at least for now?

Spot on.

Especially now, Intel managers are all about self-preservation and survival. Hard-chargers and those they perceive as ambitious or threatening will be first to go. The safest employees in the current environment are those who are allied with "chosen" managers and fine with toiling in obscurity (i.e. giving their managers credit for their work) and not ask for promotion..or anything. Somebody's gotta do the work.

@jtw, it does not work. If a lower grade shows he can do higher grade work, he will be viewed as threat, will be the target for backstabbing, I have seen this. A grade8 is way better than grade9, but he got ISP. I moved out of the team after seeing this, but I am facing very similar situation in the new team for couple of years. This is Intel culture. Need find job outside Intel.

Individual product lines are being zbbed for efficiency. GB Heads are being eliminated en mass to essentially near 0. BB heads are taking a 30 percent reduction. This a ongoing process. Unfortunately it is turning from decision points into decision cycles. If your product line is not improving profitability it will become more efficient.

Hope so. Lots of employees out there clearly abusing the system and not putting in the work to justify their salaries. Layoffs needed.

If significant headcount reductions start rolling, a high grade, high salaried employee, will have a target on their back. However, for a high grade to become vulnerable, a lower grade level in the same group would have to start performing with the same degree of competency.

It’s kind of like the game King of the Hill.

It's all of the below and more. Death by a thousand cuts, every quarter. As mentioned many times elsewhere, there will never be another ACT, at least under the BK/BS reign. Just slow, constant reductions. Have fun!

The problem with Intel layoffs is that many higher grade levels appear to be sheltered.

Most of these higher grade persons are responsible for bad decisions, lack of new products, cancellations, overspend, and the "cronytocracy" that governs large parts of the company.

As stated in an earlier thread, there are confirmed layoffs in IT and a few in SMG. Not sure about other groups.

Anyone that believes we are safe is naive. The CFO, Bob Swan, has made it clear that the plan is to double Intel’s market cap to $300 billion and double its eps from $2.21 to $4 by 2021. At this point, a large percentage of our total operating expenses go to wages, probably well over 30%. I think one quote put us at 38%. We are bloated, over-staffed and with redundant projects and roles. There is no other option but to shed jobs to meet spending targets. Hopefully we’ll learn to become more efficient in how we operate.
