Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Those in late 40s and 50s are in most danger

From what I have gathered from previous layoff rounds, everybody who is over 50 and those close to it are in biggest danger of being shown the door.

It is sad but it is true. If you have earned a decent salary through hard work and long tenure, chances are you are considered a burden by the company.

Anybody in this age bracket (me included) should update their resumes and begin looking for something new without delay.

I'm 41y with 18y tenure and I was told I am going too. News was shocking but good riddance. Hopefully my knowledge helps me to continue supporting my family.

Oh, you cute tenured GPIDs. Working your way up to CEO of sugar? You should totally tattoo that on your t^ts.

#AgeDiscrimination is like a plague nowadays, it's rampant in corporate America...

Yes, it’s true a company will target its non-performers of course. But PepsiCo absolutely will target longer tenured employees too. If you don’t think so, you’re completely naive to what happens here. Theres a reason why the 70 rule comes up every time there are layoffs. Replacing more expensive talent with cheaper, recent grads is an easy way to reduce costs especially when the most Sr leaders are kept safe. They get away with it by first targeting early retirement eligible employees with sweetened deals to leave amicably. Then PepsiCo makes the cuts look more balanced to the remaining more tenured employees being cut by offseting them with a similar number of younger, non performers. They also rescope roles and move work or dollars away from those getting pink slips to justify that the role, not the person, isn’t necessary anymore. Even if only temporary, it gives them enough ammo to persuade an employee to accept the severance pkg and sign away the right to sue.

Based on the comment about not contributing, Vivek should be the first one out the door at FLHQ, he turned in 4 back to back quarters of zero growth in 2017. He gets his mega-salary for what ? Just trying and alienating the sales organization? It’s more than clear he doesn’t know what he’s doing

If Pepsi is targeting and age group they are opening themselves up to hungry attorneys who are looking to take on a case like this. The ones that go are the people who don't contribute anymore.

100% true, especially if you were hired before they shut off pension benefits to newcomers. Experience in PepsiCo comes with a bigger price tag for the company to carry. Besides, PepsiCo wants to transform itself for the future and they want millennial attitudes that are more in line with Indra’s agenda of purpose, charity, less US, diversity, etc. Since millenials come with a smaller price tag and are more disposed to not staying for a long career anyways, it keeps their people costs low. Then Indra and her Sr leaders can waste away billions of $ without penalty on fruitless ventures like Wimm-Bill-Dann, Mueller, PQP, ridiculously overpriced IT systems projects, or pet “partnerships.” The fact that Indra is still here after the WBD fiasco is mind-blowing. No accountability for our senior most execs AT ALL.

And does that not mean Indra is now too old to be working for PepsiCo. I use “working” loosely when speaking of Indra.

The funny thing is once all the 40-50 something’s are gone so is all of that knowledge. As most PepsiCo folks know the knowledge is generally “tribal” with very little documented. Go figure it out you young whipper snappers. We old timers had to figure it out and didn’t even have GOOGLE to help us. Fun times ahead. Me personally, if I happen to get caught up in the Indra nonsense I’ll just take my knowledge elsewhere. We are too damn good to work for a company that does not consider a tenured employee as valued. FIRE Indra before she ruins our company. That is if it’s not too late already.
