They lay us off, don’t give raises, and slash bonuses but are sending a couple thousand to Disney for a management conference. It should be a crime. A--holes

How are non exempt employees paid for travel to and from the conference? Labor laws indicate...
Business trips to other states or cities must be paid. Travel to and from the airport does not have to be paid; this travel is analogous to travel to and from work. However, time spent waiting for the plane, in the plane and renting a car or waiting for a cab must be covered at the employee's normal hourly rate. Employers must also pay for time spent working, including attending seminars and meeting with clients. Employers do not have to pay for time spent sleeping, in the hotel or at lunch.
They will have lots of Kool-Aid for you to drink at the conference....but always look at the facts.
Bleeding the follett family pockets dry. We have been screaming for them to open their ears and eyes with no attention. When the pockets are empty and the house colapses they will look to us and say, what happened but that time will be too late.
And who pays for all of this? It’s ridiculous to know if Follett is going to pay anything into this Disney Management conference considering the company is complaining that they’re broke. Didn’t Follett just spend $50 million on that e commerce crap that’s bound to fail? C’mon Man!!!
I think I'll tell my RM I can't go. Umm, family emergency or some such thing. I have a business to run. As if the constant emails and weekly con call isn't enough of a waste of my time already. Let me manage my damn store and stay the hell out of my way, and don't waste a week of work doing feel good exercises that won't amount to sh-- when I get back to my store. I'd rather not have work piling up for days, thank you very much. PS feel free to give me the money you'd have spent on sending me there as a cash bonus.
The bulk of those corporate sponsorships came from companies that do much less business with Follett now. Jansport was big donor but kicked to the curb when buys inc for Champion. And you think textbook publishers will donate huge bucks? Coke sponsored the "gala"-largely due to relationship with late great M. Are they going to scare or threaten vendors to give? Big bucks were raised in 2013 due to some hard work of committee. Lots of time involved. Who has any free time now?
We I can't defend the Stanford nonsense, you guys know follett doesn't pay for most of the management conference, right? Corporate sponsorship and vendor booth fees pay for the majority of the conference. I'm mad about not getting a raise for the past three years, but direct your anger in the right place. Bad decisions by management have cost us raises, the conference has not.
I'm going to Disneyland!!!!! And listening to all the fantasy stories!!
let's not forget boondoogle gatherings like the annual catered tailgate at Stanford (either during the Big Game v Cal or V Notre Dame). It's happened every year for the past 4 years. Consider airfare, lodging (around Stanford lodging is very expensive), transportation, tickets to the game in a suite. "Guests" include follett exectutives, prospective clients, etc. Catering includes lunch, beer, wine, soft drinks. Stanford Bookstore employees provide "goodie bags".
follett is a terrible company, terrible visuals, terrible leadership (void).
Agreed. Considering the terrible financial state of this company, this is just a really terrible idea. I can already see it now... Sorry folks, no raises again this year... But hey, we gave you a few days in Orlando! And FISH philosophy will change your life!
Not to mention the ridiculous, laughable speeches that will be given about the company's progress, while sales continue to crater and Amazon eats us alive.
Won't be as good as the 2013 conference, that's for sure. All the good people are gone - RIF'd after that.
