Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

HUMANA the sinking ship

I have been an RN for 15+ years and have NEVER worked in such an unstable environment. COMs are not being forthright with their hardworking staff. I wish they would tell us the truth so that we can get out and find a more stable job, where we can be valued. I am lucky to live somewhere that has many options for nurses. I just cannot recommend this company for work or for insurance. Thumbs down.

Poster below, I thought UM at Humana was a good place to be. There have been a few of those positions posted in the last few months, and I’ve considered applying but am now glad I didn’t. Thanks for the heads up!

It isn't always sunny on the other side. Companies say a lot to woo you just like Humana did. My best friend was a UM nurse with Humana for 10 years. She hated the atmosphere and felt under appreciated. She found a job with Aetna and did nothing but praise them for a month. Stated how well she was treated, how they told her daily how much they appreciated her. She felt like she won the job lottery. A month later they walked her out. No explanations, nothing. Just to pack up her desk and be escorted out. She was a hard worker and received praise from her supervisor constantly. She quickly moved on to job 3. Once again it started out amazing! Everyone was so nice, the company treated her well. 2 years later and she hates it. She says it is run just like Humana. Grass is not always greener.

Not bitter...going to a place that appreciates me and my accomplishments-and told me that in the interview...and taking a ton of extra money with from PTO and severance. I just don't understand why there are so many organizations that want good staff and Humana doesn't either see that or care. Oh well, their loss...oh yeah, the new job pays significantly more too. Its ended up being a win-win for me and a huge blessing in disguise. Good luck to the rest of you in finding jobs.

Why do you need confirmation from a COM? The writing is clearly on the wall. Just find a different job and move on. You’re not the captain; don’t go down with the ship.

If the reason you were laid off was not due to performance, it was sure due to you being a threat to leadership. You probably are very smart and know too much for your own good! Policy and procedure...who has time for that? Webinars...when? They don't want that. They don't want to see you go above and beyond or look for opportunities to look better than your coach/COM. Your coach no doubt saw you as a threat and wanted you gone. How many others on your team were impacted?

Poster below...I am glad you got a new job. I was impacted with this round, and while a work at home situation is essential for me at this time, sadly I may be looking elsewhere. HR told me they would try to place me in another role, but I hope this is just not talk. In my city, it is extremely difficult to get an RN job if you don't have recent experience in the ICU, OR, ER or labor and delivery. I have none of that. Also, most jobs where 2 decades ago "bilingual is a plus" was often seen, now most jobs I see "bilingual is required" to be both fluent in written and spoken Spanish. How long did it take you to get a job, how many times did you have to interview. I can't get through 30 minutes w/o crying, I don't know how I can do an interview at this point.

To the poster a couple posts below...we will never know how we were chosen, but I can tell you this...in my many years with this company, I NEVER called in sick, I NEVER logged in late, I NEVER logged out early, I nearly ALWAYS made metrics, and when that wasn't possible, there was a legitimate reason. I skipped lunches and breaks, stayed late, and came in early to ensure my work was done. I asked numerous times to do tasks above and beyond my current job so that I could promote and be more versatile. I attended all webinars offered that would enhance any skill/knowledge here. I read policy and procedure weekly and kept up with all changes. I responded to my teammates in the chat w/I 15 minutes if they asked questions. I am seeking a graduate degree to enhance my skills (hoping that I would be moving up here in the years to come, but that has changed). I take on any extra task that is asked of me, I reach out and ask if anyone needed help daily. From what I feel, I was a model employee, and I was impacted. Perhaps this is what it takes to get RIFF'ed

HCM RN, I left 3 months ago and have not regretted it! No longer need to take med to sleep at night. You do not fully realize how much the stress from this job impacts your health and your family until you leave. Have been an RN for 37 years and dealing with patients having VT/ VF less stressful than this job was!

Humana dropped ACA. Blaming the former President is ridiculous. Medicare and Medicaid cuts will affect all advantage plans. The failed merger and Humana’s failure to plan are directly responsible for the current RIF. Humana told those impacted in an anonymous call rather than have this information given by managers. Cowardly and inhumane. They will not disclose how those impacted were chosen, only it wasn’t related to performance. HAH is a sinking ship.

That’s the thing - the instability is stressful but could be more bearable without the lies and BS.

News articles are calling for a smaller layoff round in 2018. We can acknowledge that. We don’t need BS or sugar coating. It is what it is.

HCM-RNs, PHCs, HCM-SSs and CHEs were all impacted. Oh, and @QaJINoD-1unw, Humana is not the only the business that has done this. Doesn't mean they lack Humanity for doing this nor do I for understanding this. Would you be happier if all 50,000 employees lost their jobs because the company is getting screwed by a law set up by our former president or less than 3% of the employees are laid off to keep the company strong? Give me a break! It s---s that so many are out of work, but it could be way worse! There are folks with worse problems then we have right now.

Impacted PHC here. We’re there any more layoffs today? What's going on with the HAH Demos?? It seems only DM, LH, and LTIH have been impacted in HAH. I wish everyone good luck in finding a new job.

I can tell you that COMs have no idea whether or not this is a sinking ship. They’re just as nervous as us. They just let go of a few and they had no idea it was coming. It’s only high up management that really knows the plan.

Humana has made it known that it is for sale. The membership is dwindling. What did they expect after the Aetna Debacle? Members cannot find doctors to provide the services they need. The 'book' is not complete: The physician finder is not complete. It is not a well oiled ship anymore. There is confusion as to where we are going, confusion as to what is happening. All the adages of Perfect Service, Simplify, etc are bygones. The CEOs and high managers are interested in packing money into their own pockets before the whole healthcare system crashes into a Government run item. The elderly are definitely losing out on this. Developing relationships with customers is not important to them yet claim we are responsible for developing and engaging them, as you can be yanked into another program or let go. What kind of a malicious cruel system is this where you let people know their livelihood is ending in 2 months and you are expected to carry on as usual. Note how the higher management are not laid off but moved to newly designed programs. The hives are just let out to pasture as there is no concern for the worker bee and their families anymore as their own needs are met. We have come into a society now where the elderly, sick, poor are not important any more.

They won’t be honest. They want to squeeze as much work from everyone as possible to make as big of profit as they can then let you go. If they are truthful with you, people would leave and they wouldn’t get the work they want finished before letting you go.
