When I went to buy an iPod Touch in college, we price compared for several different stores in the area to get the best deal. Toys-R-Us was about $30 more expensive than any other store and had no added benefits to offer.

TRU is a lousy company to work for and had their own website "the darkside of TRU" which was nothing but gripes from current employees." They are renowned for underpaying and their main office is located in the middle of nowhere wayne new jersey and as a corporation has the kind of small mindset that makes Mattel look progressive. At least we embraced online 5 years ago with Amazon and the inception of MAX for retailers.

What I was referring too is that, much like the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the fall of TRU will be the alarm that finally wakes and mobilizes the giant that is Mattel to the importance of online retail. Idiom is correct!

The US was a sleeping giant when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. This person has their idioms wrong.

Is Mattel really a sleeping giant, though? I thought our problem was we made too many SKUs. Wouldn't that we a hyperactive giant then?

"We just need to transcend brick and mortar"

Yes, let's go all in with online sales, which in total equal 8% of total retail sales. Oh, the talking head on TV forgot to mention that brick and mortar retail represents over 90% of retail sales while they were feeding you that BS narrative about online sales being the cause of brick and mortar's fall?

Yes, and Amazon is on a small fraction of that 8%. Ever heard of fake news? This is a prime example of why you don't believe what you hear on TV or the media, no matter how many times they tell it to you.

And that should've been your next clue. When the media drums something into your head 1,000,000 times such as Amazon is the reason stores are closing everywhere, it's called a "narrative" which is a fancy word for Bull S__T.

These are not days to be clueless about how the world works.

Sorry, but last time I checked, Mattel still is the leader, 40,000 employees is much greater then any other. Moblize that force on the right objective and none can compete. Like a sleeping giant waking, great opportunities in online and digital shall be ceased.

Not a big deal. We just need to transcend brick and mortar. Clearly some do not understand the meaning of innovation - that’s our speciality.
