It is pretty much clear to those on the ground that the new flagship storage product from MRES is going to be a disaster. There is no way this product which is already delayed can compete with offerings from Netapp, HP and pure. The team doing the job is also not up-to the mark. The incompetent leadership have fooled the Dell management so much so that Michael had to get in his right hand man Jeff to set things right.
Now there is already a huge sunk cost gone into cyclone. Jeff Clark doesn't have the guts or gumption to shut this potential disaster of a project down. He has fallen victim to the sunk cost fallacy which is irrational. This behavior is driven by the urge to maintain consistency. Consistency tends to make things credible. We find contradictions abominable. If you cancel a project midway you create contradictions. Hence the easy path of continuity and loosing more money. Jeff doesn't have rational decision making which can help cut looses don't look back at the past, think about future consequences which can enable to look at alternative approaches.
