Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Whose brilliant idea was this?

Seriously, who thought that the best way to save a company is to pretty much get rid of its local IT department? I've worked for a company before where all IT related matters had to be resolved through a department in another country. It was a total and unmitigated disaster.

I understand that it's cheaper, but it ends up costing more in the end due to the many, many issues that arise with this kind of setup. I left that company several years ago, just to see the same crap happen here. Mark my words, Seagate will regret this decision.

Question from someone not in IT but who has always heard it is a good, flexible field: it is obviously horrible to be let go, but doesn't having an IT skill set allow you to go work at any other company? It's not like you are an HDD engineer and only have one other company to go to.

It was burning down prior to Ravi but his addition was adding JP8 to the fire. He is distructive, incompetent and hides his incompitence behind belittling and berating those he find inferior. He has forced senior directors to reduce staff by 80 and 100 percent without any knowledge of what resources are doing or what obligations to the organization they are fulfilling. Goodbye Seagate, this (ravi) will be your downfall.
