The distinction between Gr 7/8 can be hard to determine..

Gr 9 used to be either a Staff Engineer or non Director manager.

Gr 10 is a Prin Engineer or Director..

Better question is how Intel grades compare to FANG grades (Facebook, Amazon, NVidia, Google), is it divide by 2?

A principal engineer at intel is a grade 10. I believe the minimum grade level to be called director is also grade 10, but you can be a higher grade and still a director. Below grade 10, there are no firm associations between title and grade level. At grade 10+, you can discern someone's grade level based on their title.

I've met "directors" in smaller companies that basically had 5 reports.

Titles are almost meaningless...they vary wildly from company to company...

Impossible to say. First of all, some companies call you „senior“ after three to five years of experience. Second, not all sites apply the grades in the same way. For example in SD and Santa Clara, people get much higher grades to get them into higher salary ranges, as otherwise, Intel would not be competitive in the job market.

I wold personally say that „senior“ level begins at grade 8 based on the official descriptions of the grades. 7 is experienced, but not senior (five years of experience and upwards), though like I said, many companies would call that „senior“.
