IBM plans to split up and sell giant Rochester campus

I'm sure Ginni has offered some sort of package deal that includes a number of employees to be included with the buildings. . .

I don’t believe this surprises anyone. IBM had moved the current workforce into fewer and fewer buildings as Time has moved on. Austin has done the same thing. Essentially IBM does not want to own hard assets within the USA. If you look at the “future” Power roadmap, only “enterprise” sized customers are referenced. This bodes poorly for the 80% of customers who are in the scaleout marketplace. The real question is what happens to the Rochester workforce, and it’s product line (os/400 and LPP’s). System I is a unique product within IBM much like MVS and the mainframe just on a smaller scale. (think proprietary). Does IBM invest into OS/400 to keep it alive, or does IBM IP off OS/400 and take short term gains??? With their strategic initiative view point being center stage, I believe OS/400 may be going away as IBM would rather invest in LINUX and the Cloud.
