If that is the case, shopping expensive machines without any prior ground work that not able to deliver the yield can also be waste. These machines become white elephants and can be good museum items.
keep dreaming. You'll be gone before RD because unlike RD a name player, you are just a number associated with a salary. If you fit the equation you will be gone for a younger cheaper option just out of school. Reality isn't just a show it's a punch in the pants.
If frivolous is the same as wasted, then every paycheck and stock option ever paid to RD was frivolous. It's time to sever this leech. I'm on my 18th trip to HK in my 6 years with the company and I always get my pole waxed. Oh and calling us "Gweilo" is racist. Germany is fun but the women there have bad teeth and breath to match. The men on the other hand are better groomed and surprisingly well endowed.
London is always a rip. The folks at Hit are amazing and SM always knows where the action is at! we even watched LD make out with another lady the last time we were out there. hotness
If you're in the AKC you get to go on the boondoggle trips, plain and simple, not even sure what's so hard to understand.
If you're a VP or above you get to fly Business Class, if not you're screwed..
My last trip to a factory was many years ago as the vendors now bring all WIP to the HK so-called approval mtgs.
BTW, I wouldn't consider the Sjheraton/dinner at Mortons as actually slumming. The slumming in done in Mainland China......
This is a really silly chain. Mattel has always been good at wasting travel money (Cannes, this year, seriously, who would ever approve that trip, what were they thinking?) But too many employees spend far too much time keeping tabs on their co-workers and gossiping instead of working hard and focusing on their jobs (I think a result of poor and often immature leadership). This has been Mattel culture for many years. Management has made a mess of the company and whining about travel isn't going to change that. Maybe the new CFO will help institute better travel policies, but suspect he has bigger problems. If you want to make a point, suggest you use this outlet to talk about something more substantive.
You still think HK is an exotic place to go shopping? Never heard of the internet? Oh you want fake bags?
Again been to HK many times and all over the place. You think I haven’t been to Macau and Shanghai? Been to all of that and more. Again it’s because you think it’s a reward to go to HK as opposed to getting your s#!t done. You think going to lan Kwai Fong w all the gwailo is the thing to do? You obviously don’t go enough when you think that’s the highlight. anyway why we talking about HK anyway. That’s usually not frivolous travel because it’s work. When Barbie goes to nyc for fashion week just to go go or when the SVPs go to Europe. That’s when the stupid happens. but now everyone’s being watched. So you’re pretty sad if going to HK is where you think the action is. It’s not like you’re staying at the peninsula. You’re slumming it at the langham or Sheraton thinking you’re on vacation getting excited for your dinner at Morton’s.
For real, a trip to China without whores, lavish meals and shopping means your doing it wrong.
seriously, if you’re going to hk/china and no ones taking you to karaoke or macau for a night then you’re a tool that’s being used like a tool. part of going is to socialize, bond and bust a nut or two. if the senior staff isn’t inviting you along for drinks “or more” then you are not going to go beyond busting your backside thanklessly and having jet lag. you are a worthless worker bee who has to show a clueless drone how to do your job so you’ll be phased out eventually. even factory owners have partied with us when we go there and were treated to lavish dinners and massages. get with the program kiddies.
Is travel spending really that out of control? I figured there was plenty more waste between the monthly employee meetings, creative conventions, on-site events, etc that millions of dollars and tens of thousands of hours are spent on each year.....

All my trips to Asia are productive. No hoores or king dining. Been going there for years. A lot of what you guys are talking about are from svps and above years ago. It’s just fun for you to talk about because a lot of you think getting to go to HK is a privilege or a prize. Lot of you don’t even know how a factory works. Working trips to HK are different from the mas----at@ry trips that are made by the Barbie marketing team. Again because they think they should be held to a different standard. Just start w that vp of marketing who’s a snarky little gnome. Bad leadership begets bad little clones and entitled behavior. Ergo Barbie culture.
90% of upper mismanagement goes to HK for shopping, dining, & partying, in that order.
Never forget. CPI guy at the company gym bragging about how time he spent shopping and all the great deals he got.

wait. why would anyone want to use gadgets when you can travel overseas or to another coast and eat and drink like royalty on the companies dime? parties in asia are the best! when SS was overseas he’d host us, get us whores and take us to clubs in soho. you can’t get that with gadgets.
Yes... there are still groups of people travelling for business purposes which can be avoided since there are communication gadgets that can bring everybody to same platform.
