Okay, what is the layoff criteria for DXC? Last round they got rid of a few people who were knowledgeable and actually doing their jobs, while a guy who spends half of his time on his phone is still here. It's infuriating to see him do bare minimum and regularly pick up his paycheck with no worries. People who are working their behinds off are getting let go, and he is still sitting there. Somebody MUST see that he is barely doing anything, why don't they care? I'm pretty sure they could even have grounds to fire him, not lay him off with severance. I honestly can't understand this.

For my final 6 months at DXC, I would attend the office the days I chose (very seldom on a Friday, always later on a Monday etc). Any nice sunny day, I would not attend because the weather was nicer outside to sunbathe than inside an office. I would surf the net mostly, do some learning, have long lunch breaks, talk to friends/colleagues etc and go home early.
Why? Because I had no work to do. Even after asking my manger, still was not assigned work to do.
50+ years of service in EDS/HP/HPE/DXC ... what a waste of life. I would have gone Postal. It just shows that the person should have got a life a long time ago and left.
DXC is a sham. If the client ever found out about how our team operates, we'd be on the wrong end of a lawsuit.
Nobody cares anymore. I go into the office, surf the net, have lunch, attend pointless meeting, and go home.
Just pay me please!
“Good people are let go just so these bozos can hang out and collect a paycheck.”
Well, don’t blame the people who are left; blame the managerial incompetence that drives this behavior. Then ask yourself: knowing the quoted statement above is accurate, do I want to be a “good people” or a bozo? I’ll take the clown costume every time. And if you truly want to secure your job, you will too. Anything else is pure stupidity.
DXC generally expects you to be available 24/7 for any project you’re on. If that’s the expectation, I have no problems posting here on “company time”.
It is so discouraging to see dead wood still hanging around just because they are someone's buddy or pity project. But it goes on in every part of the company. Good people are let go just so these bozos can hang out and collect a paycheck.
I bet most posting (including me) is doing it on company time, so don't cast stones
To all you mathematically challenged fools: I started in ‘68 and will leave under my own volition in ‘20. That spans seven decades in case you’re having trouble counting. 2020 puts me Right at the age I am forced to take 401k distributions. Until till then I’ll live on DXCs dime.
or they dont know what a decade is :) it wouldt surprise me hahaha
he/she would've had to have started working here as soon as he/she was born if they are about to turn 60
Presumably he/she is about to turn 60...not that unusual?
"...and will soon enter my 7th decade in this cesspool" - how the h*ll old are you?
"The only thing I care about is me. I do very minimal, substandard work "
Bang on - you must be highly prized - It took me a while to realise how it really works in CSC, and I see the same thing in DXC.
Its about being able to make the customer pay more to "change control" intentionally shoddy work.
Some great techniques are doing the minimum (knowing it will fail in other areas), stall critical re-work to get it match fit (or ignore), intentionally collide collide separate bits of work, so they have to be unpicked later for go-live.
When any "unforeseen problems" are revealed and the customer asks "Eh why?", the PM can s--- in cheeks, say that the customer asked for these "scope changes" and that it will take an extra (fill in here) just to fix the fixes to the fixes.
Its not about doing your job well, on time and to budget, its about being able to con the customer into believing their partner is excellent in dealing with all the "problems",
If you do your job well, bosses do see you as a financial risk to themselves (after all, who is needed to sort out this intentional mess?) and if you're a risk to your bosses existance, then woe betide you - you need to be got rid of quickly..
Its been like this for at least a DECADE.
To OP and 88: I sound like a broken record on this as I have posted numerous replies on this same topic. But here goes another repeat:
You gain NOTHING by working hard at this company. Their is no productivity or financial reason to their layoff decisions. It is strictly a bullying and intimidation tactic. If you work hard and act like you care, you WILL be laid off. If you slack off and let them know you will not swallow their BS, they will leave you alone.
Is this ethical? Of course not. Is it a way to run a successful company? Absolutely not. But no one has accused DXC of being ethical or successful.
The only thing I care about is me. I do very minimal, substandard work and will soon enter my 7th decade in this cesspool. But it pays the bills, bought my house, and put my kids through college. Do ask yourselves: who is more successful? Me, or the poor slug always looking for another job?
The people who are being nasty about someone noticing a slacker is probably doing the same thing. That's my two cents!
Why don’t they let go of the people who are more interested in what others are doing?
OP .. its simple, if the person has time with his phone, definitely he must be doing something really valuable, like posting his good experience about DXC online, or on layoff.com
.. on the other hand you are working your bottom off with your manager inserting his in your backside while watching the other person to get turned on..
so basically you should be paying DXC not the other way around, that guy is doing charity by playing with his phone.
The guy does nothing because doing nothing is rewarded the same as working hard. Frankly, that guy is the hero and the OP is the schmuck. ;)
Stop worrying about others and how they deal with their jobs or careers.... concentrate on yourself
The guy goofing off is low-paid, the guys that were RIFed were expensive. There is no other criteria at play. Skills and value are not in the equation.
You don't know this by now?
If youre so hard working how do you do have time to look after someone else? And if youre so good and everyone else is bad and dont do nothing, why dont you piss off somewhere else? Just my 2 cents
