Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

The party is over.

Ed I. and his original crew of engineers built something unique and so easy to sell. The hubris was thick in those days. We all thought it was our efforts that made this successful. We had a part, but it was the product and the timing primarily, I think. When Microsoft became a competitor, we managed somehow to stay well ahead in many ways but we still had basically one offering. We made many failed attempts to diversify and grow revenue through acquisition. Netscaler was awesome. Goto was a good buy. We even considered buying VMWare in the early days. That would've been a smart move but you know hindsight. It's not often that things come together as they did under Ed I. But they did and the company stock just exploded. Citrix at the time was very generous with the stock options. Ed I. tried his hand at other ventures but even he couldn't replicate the success. And you know it wasn't a lack of intelligence or effort. I'm not sure anyone could have done a better job of diversifying Citrix. Although, after some of the acquisitions (MSAM) it did seem like someone should take the checkbook away. My last day is tomorrow. But for my experience it has been a great company to work for and excellent people to work with. I have no complaints. In my opinion, the company should put their resources into simplifying the deployment and purchasing of our core products. Create our own true cloud and sell direct. At this stage, it really shouldn't take a team of consultants months to get this stuff deployed. Simplify, sell direct, get rid of the overhead (including me), lower the price and move on to the next phase. I love Citrix and the company has always been good to me. I wish them and all of you the best of luck in the future.
