COBRA Coverage - health insurance continuation

Do you know how COBRA coverage works if laid off? 8 years with the company, FTL.

Thank you in advance...

Unless you have a medical emergency it's always less expensive to buy coverage independent of COBRA

This sums it up well - tagging it #COBRA

COBRA coverage is expensive, but still cheaper than what it would be if you had to buy your own under ObamaCare (unless you end up in a subsidized situation). I just switched over from COBRA to having to buy regular insurance; my rate is higher and the coverage is lower.

COBRA will include your vision care, which, in the US, covers one pair of glasses per year. It doesn't depend on the date (e.g., it can be less than a year since your last pair), so if you end up with COBRA, get your glasses before COBRA ends. Our vision care is great... take advantage of it.

what are medical insurance options in FL and CA after a layoff. Is Obamacare a viable option or are the premiums higher than COBRA. Its been a decade since I've even had to think about this.

COBRA is never economical unless you are currently in the hospital. Coverage is about 3x normal rates.

You'll be contacted by the company that handles COBRA. You make payments to them monthly once you're signed up. It may or may not be a good deal for you.
