Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Info given to those laid off

Layoffs happened across both of it's 2 corporate offices, Framingham MA, and Broomfield CO. Affected employees will have a chance to interview with TCS in October... Those hired by TCS will leave Staples for TCS in November, while the rest will stay with Staples until February. Nearly all of operational IT got this news yesterday. They gave them the rest of the day & today off... Which effectively shut down Staples Corporate until Monday.

Bumped from @PvXz9LT-ivv for info, for those who missed it.

"The retention bonus is an incentive to remain employed by Staples until Feb. and Staples would pay the bonus." Post ID: @PyyTS1o-4owm

And monkeys are going to fly out of my butt.

We are talking about Staples here right? The company that went private but is still running itself like it's publicly traded because the leadership team doesn't know how to do things differently.

"Bonuses?" Post ID: @PyyTS1o-4mvy

That's funny. Do you really think the outsourcing company, who is in business to make the most profit while paying employees the least will honor bonuses? There will be a caveat stating you have to work until x amount of time and guess what? You will be let go just before., but not before you have shared the knowledge and helped train those who will replace you. Have you ever worked with TCS? It's not good.

"Explain to the rational world why anyone who was laid off and not rehired by TCS would stay with Staples until February."

Just for the severance package if there is one. That happened to someone in my family. Stay the next 6 months, get laid off and a severance. Quit now and get nothing.

He stayed on the 6 months, did the minimum, only did the barest of trainings for his replacement, used the free time he wasn't doing work (at the office) to look for new jobs.

Got it. So in other words, stay on board and train the people who are replacing you or you won't get the bonus we could have paid you as part of your severance package. There's a word for that...Blackmail.

PyyTS1o-cwf had the "poorly run" part right but forgot classless.

Why would they stay? To receive their retention bonus.

If this is what was truly communicated it is an eye opening example of how poorly run Staples is. Wow!
