Thread regarding Sears layoffs

No seasonal hires nor extra hours???

I don't know if each DM is taking a different approach. I got word yesterday that apparently our store is not going to hire any seasonal workers. I still believe its a bunch of BS for them not to hire any seasonal workers at this point its crazy come xmas its going to be chaos and hell, but apparently co worker told me an ASM said it in the meeting our hours wont go higher for seasonal time. I feel its a scare tactic, but apparently it seem serious. I googled and I don't see no seasonal hiring for my store at all. Funny thing is I do see it in other stores, so could this be legit?

Could this be a sign we might close and they don't want to hire? Or is each DM taking a different approach?

I spoke to our District Recruiter today. She said in our district seasonal hiring is frozen and she knew nothing about the October 17th National Hiring Day. She was referring to our district only. She didn't know about the others.

@wtx The poster is being sarcastic about the "Amazon thing."

In my Sears store they have posted seasonal openings for just about every position. Not sure about what will happen to our hours, though...

@1eks I was the original poster so it might be legit that they are actually freezing highering now just imagine since its going to be short handed calling in on BF that would be the best time to actually call in or even quit the chaos it would be caused in that department would be horrendous.

Our district recruiter said last week that seasonal hiring is frozen and that hours will not be increased significantly for the holidays. Black Friday weekend will be total chaos and hell.

You're being very optimistic about the amazon thing. I hope you realize most of that product has been available for years everywhere else. That and it would just be easier to order it from amazon anyway. Like always.

The only thing that will be busy will be the backroom getting dot com's, we at our sears store are looking for seasonal help, but not a single extra hour for them to get any time on the floor

With the new Amazon line, Black Friday is gonna be crazy. I think we might have to pass out numbers this year so people don’t spend the night outside.

Yeah I'm not surprised by this. After seeing how Sears/Kmart looked last year with Black Friday through Christmas, it was like they were lining up to shop there.

Only when Xmas turns to Christmas will things turn around. Merry Christmas in advance.

Why do thy need seasonal hiring, just schedule the part timers more hours? Sales will be awful anyway.
