Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Questions IBM laying off personal but software get a raise

So how can IBM say they haven't made money and they are laying people off. But I no that tech software sales just got 5-6 percent pay increase something wrong with that ?

They can also be cost of living, which has nothing to do with merit and success. All tech sellers I work with haven't seen raise in years. It is the young summit hires getting the raise not the people who are long term and actually add value.

I wouldn't read too much into that.. I know its not everyone in Tech Sales just a select few and btw these select few are probably the ones remaining while the rest are on a list to go. Management gets allocated around 7-10% for pay increases for their teams. Normally good managers will try to evenly distribute it however currently a few will get the pay raise and the rest will not ... those will be on a short list. Trust me when I say that its not much when plus IBM is notorious for giving out meager pay raises and a 5-6% pay raise is peanuts by the time the IRS gets its fair share ... you are left with enough to buy a large pizza. By the way been there done that ...

There is a difference between a pay increase and a comp plan change. Sometimes companies are too aggressive on sales budgets and have to back off the quotas if they are unachievable. I know my group reduced quota by 5%, with the same target earnings, but, that quota was a 10% increase from the previous year.
