Thread regarding Toys "R" Us layoffs

Should I quit or wait it out?

Unlike a bunch of people, I actually like my job at Toys "R" Us. I got good colleagues, fair managers, and a decent pay (I am not saying those who are complaining are wrong, just saying I got lucky.) This situation, however, scares me a lot. I have an opportunity to change my job, but I'm not sure I want to give up on Toys just yet. I have until Monday to decide, and I have no idea what to do. Do we know mass layoffs are incoming? Or mass store closures? Or is there a chance we can come out of this mostly unscratched on those fronts?

One thing for sure is they will be closing under-performing stores

Is your store a class A store? Top performing store? If so you should be good. My store is a class C . And it's going down the crapper. I'm only PT so I'm out of there before the holidays that for sure. Good luck to you!

They go through the layoffs every year, and contrary to your experience, many are caught off guard.

The question you should ask yourself is if you are at the retail level or corporate. If it's the retail, then find out when the lease expires, those matters are out of your control, but that may give you an idea as to when the clock will run out.

If it's at corporate... well are you "in" with "that crowd"?

If you know what that means, and the answer is yes... then you're fine... it's an annual tradition going back to the 80s... what's there to worry about, the gravy train will keep pouring for another 15 months.

If the answer to the above is so, then I'd suggest you move on.

Leave. TRU was always known as cheapskates in the industry by way of pay and work/life balance. Go elsewhere. Move on. You're destined to go only up from here.

That’s really your decision to make.
