Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Ireland Lay off

Dell is playing with the employment law in Ireland. Since they don't have to advertise nor let the government know if they let go less than 30 people in a period of 30 days, they are letting go of less than 30 per 30 days therefore no need to publish nor giving the employee the opportunity to call for negotiations of collective redundancy.

Does anyone know how many weeks per year service is being paid? I heard differently for multiple people.

The worse managers are still there, they are like cancer cells. They need to be flushed out.

Up to know EMC2 was 6 weeks + 2 statutory, and uncapped. Based on your base rate of pay excluding shift and OT, +1 month notice.

Don't know any one that has got the dell one yet, but the year is up and they hired workforce transition managers back in July/August so what does that tell you?

That's 4 dell plus 2 statutory . You get also get the months pay after you get laid off . It's capped at 2 years pay , that's another difference as emc never capped it

The above is true as I know someone in Ireland who got it recently

Is that 6 weeks plus 2 statutory weeks or 4 dell and 2 stay? Too many rumours around about cheap packages in ireland..supposedly capped at 13 years aswell

Actually, I believe legacy EMC severence was 10 weeks plus 1 week for each year of service. There were additional weeks and insurance extension options if you were 55 years or older.

In Ireland it is 30 in a 90 day period not 30 in a 30 day.

Don't think they will give less of a package than they have been giving the last few years.

  1. Precedence set for years

  2. Do they really want to go down the same route they went when they layed off in dell Limerick.

don't take it personally, take the money instead, this is business, Mr. Dell and his L2s business, not ours, it's hard but deal with it, take the money and leave. Just.. Just take the money, put it in a bag or hug it in your arms, and.. and leave.

Last I heard ( last week), severance package is 10 weeks base + 1w/year. May be different in Ireland.

I like your handle - UnDELLIZED!!! Anyhow, they are doing similar things here in the states - there are tresholds that each state has that trigger what we call WARN notices. WARNs indicate how many was laid off, they need to report age groups, give advance warntings, etc. What I've see are small and geographically distributed cuts that help them avoid WARNs (WARN tresholds are location based, so 5 x 100 locations will not trigger a warn)...

Management is sneaky, but we know their tricks, dont we.... F---ers!
