Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Kmart Lease Renewal

Is there any experienced employees here who may know the signs that your store will be closing? For example, is researching when Kmart plans to renew lease or leases something that can help?

We have been receiving odd repacks recently. Our truck has been cut to once a week. Rumors that we are to only give a 30 day return policy and that 2 of our 3 phone lines are showing up on caller id as a liquidation company.

Our inventory is in less than 2 weeks and the l.p. dm, who in my 5+ years there have never seen, was in today but our dm was not.

Thoughts or experiences?

foolproof way to tell if your store is closing. Walk out the front door and look up. If the sign says "Sears", you'e closing. If it says "K-Mart" you're closing sooner. Good luck to all.

Can also use a CNAM lookup service to find it.

Here's the trick: the phone system only exchanges the number while setting up a call. The name is actually retrieved from a database query by the landline phone provider when it generates the caller ID data stream. The database is known as a CNAM database, and there are tools out there that will let you look it up for an arbitrary phone number.

"Rumors that we are to only give a 30 day return policy and that 2 of our 3 phone lines are showing up on caller id as a liquidation company."

IDK why the phone thing would be a rumor. It would be a really weird/dumb thing for them to bother changing the caller ID names, I've never heard of that happening at any other closing stores (Sears/Kmart or other companies). It should be super easy to prove or disprove instead of it being a rumor - use the store phone to call someone you know who has a landline with caller ID (cell phones won't work because they only retrieve the phone number portion of the caller ID data, not the name portion; if they show a name, it's only because it's what you chose to name it in your phone's address book).

It's very simple. Go to seritage.com if your property is owned by them you are closing.

Might even have a date or a diagram of the new store.

Go look at the st Clair shores Kmart (still open and booming) and you will see the Kroger logo and new site plan.... sad but true.

They will announce the closing for them after xmas (demo can't start till the spring)

Are plants for life supposed to be for 29 days or for life?

After 30 days, we can't even process Satisfaction Guarantee returns on house brand products or the Plants for Life guarantee. We have had to decline customers for this and refer them to SYW for a points credit instead.

If a liquidation telephone number is showing up on your phone lines, you probably are closing!

It's been a 30 day return policy for a few years now company wide. Where have you been? We are literally not allowed to do ANY returns after 30 days and no one in the store can override it. Doesn't matter if it's 31 days the answer is NO. Any refunds that are overrode after 30 days shows up on a report and the store gets in HUGE trouble by the RVP.
