Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Incoming CA layoffs at Teradata

Get ready, rumor is there are more reorganizations (aka layoffs) coming. Teradata has a big footprint in California. In CA, if a company lays off more than 30 (more or less, not sure of the exact number) in a month, the company has to pre-report the layoff to the state and the layoff has to comply with the CA WARN rules. To avoid those rules, Teradata targets just enough CA based employees to stay under the limit. They've done this for years. We expect another layoff in Sept or Oct and after that who knows. Morale is low.

The engineering team in CA is the best Teradata had for the longest time. I admire the guys who are part of engineering. The problem with Teradata is not the engineering team rather our leaders who have pissed off good money buying companies that were not worth what we paid and didn't make changes to the way we sold our hardware and software. So here we are today and I am not sure if it is too late to make the changes. Cloud strategy was non existent for past four years which hurt us badly. Amazon and others are miles ahead of us and now we have to play catch up games. The way we have let go some of the resources has not helped us. I know personally some of the best people leaving us in the past 3-4 years and few getting cut for no reason even though they have done good job. Politics and the way we conduct hiring has been disastrous for the longest time. I have zero faith in the current lot at the top to turn this company around.
