Thread regarding CGG Veritas layoffs

Keeping useless management while laying off productive employees

That is a very common trend in today's economy, keep the (obviously inefficient) managers and make the people that actually do the work redundant. It seems like the "managers" feel that they simply have to sit and "babysit" a shell company ( and collect a paycheck) until the much touted economic recovery happens and then workers will be hired, and the "managers" can then inefficiently manage again. But that's assuming that a recovery will happen and I don't see anybody predicting that in the near future with any confidence ( other than the "managers" ). "Well-positioned for the recovery" is how they put it.

Why doesn't CGG examine why they are now over 2 billion dollars in debt, and treat the real cause? Everybody who worked for CGG can produce a list of bad managerial decisions, the Fugro deal being a classic! But I guess that it's better to stick to the script and make the workers the fall guys ; protects the managers' egos.
