HAMR or MAMR? It doesn't matter. It's will give a only few years to company. Just start your job hunting, if you are not considering earlier retirement.

HAMR works, but has inherent reliability problem due to heating from the laser, so it hasn't yet reached a stage where Seagate is willing to release it. Western Digital is pursuing MAMR, which evidently doesn't cause the same heating related reliability problems will probably be implemented before Seagate perfects HAMR. SSD's will continue to eat away at HDD market share for the forseeable future. Hard to see how Seagate will pull a rabbit out of its hat on this one.

HAMR is running! I saw it with my own eye (lost an eye years ago from a HAMR laser accident). I still voted it should be called LAMR after my lawsuit, but lawyers will be lawyers.
