Everyone still at Mattel is corrupt in their own way, it's the only way to survive at Mattel. Certainly all of mismanagement, for obvious reasons. The system encourages corruption there, VPs & directors are only concerned with hitting very short term goals. And everyone under them have been reduced to boot-licking sycophants in order to survive to the next paycheck. Most of the real talent has either quit or been laid off. Margaret can hire all the Goog-fella pals she wants, but until the current organization and its toxic, fear-base culture burns to the ground, we will continue to fail. Human resources has constantly shown itself to be the devil, only protecting the company. HUMAN RESOURCES MUST COMPLETELY TRANSFORM AND REINVENT THE COMPANY FROM WITHIN. AND FAST. People need career mobility, opportunity, rewards, incentives, HOPE for improvement. People need to know that HR is on their side, has their best interests at heart, and that they can go to HR with issues and get HELP, instead of being marked as a problem child. Only when people feel safe and appreciated will they start working smarter, engaging their brains to offer creative alternatives and improvements. EVERY SINGLE PERSON needs to feel that what they do is important and contributing to a TEAM WIN. There has been none of that at Mattel recently. Fear, desperation, and hopelessness have prevailed, and no one gives a crap about anything except the next layoff, so no one's going to rock the boat. Is that "best practice"? Consider: in recent years, how many ridiculous "excellence" and "efficiency" initiatives have blown smoke up management's collective arse? PLM, Kaisen, Six-Sigma, Global Cost Leadership, and more have FAILED because our problems are ingrained and can't be repaired by slapping on whatever multi-million dollar quick-fix program is in vogue that month, according to Fortune magazine. We need brutally honest self-examination of the entire organization. The time has come to painfully scutinize every person, policy and procedure at Mattel. "Because we've always done it that way" just can't fly anymore. Margaret: ask RD about how his "massive overhaul" in the DC went. The MH twins were given carte blanche to interview designers, identify problems, and reinvent the whole design process. After months of intensive and exhaustive work, guess what the big (and only) change was? Free coffee. Another win/win for Mattel.
Well said, @PNg7w3c-1kbd.
