I agree with 2-Bar. Mamr is fake news. Wd is likely just trying to rock the boat by making bogus announcements. Hamr is not only real, but the stock is up, indicating the market approves of Seagate's direction.

News that the FDA is looking into the effects SDO microwaves will have on people that sit in front of their computers for hours on end.
There is some expert opinion in the medical field that sub-microwave fields may cause male sterilization, reduce female s-x drive, cause excessive menses in pre-school girls, and has been known to cause blindness in boys (that play with their wanker too much).

Senior leadership is trying to figure out how to ramp MAMR technology, without panicking the stock holders; reassign resources from the gutted facilities and engineering teams; and pull a rabbit out of their hat. If you listen closely outside the meeting room I think I hear the question, “you sure time travel doesn’t exist ... cause we could go back and tell ourselves not to followup on the many bad decisions from the last couple of years”
They will be trying to set a hard date with actual details for the release of a HAMR drive as an "answer" to WD's MAMR. Of course, this also has them shaking in their boots as they actually have to deliver something that will go into production, let alone meet the requirements of their major customers....
In my limited experience, WD doesn't BS as much as Seagate does in trying to sell that they have a special technology that will extend the life of hard drives. WD has delivered, at least it did with helium. If WD announced MAMR for 2019, they probably have a solid plan to deliver. This will put a lot of pressure on Mr. Ponytail.
