Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Complainers and sad people

It sounds like the majority of you are whiners and love pity parties. Instead of b**ing about everything why don’t you do something about it? Get off your lazy a and make a difference! Every company that has ever started has gone through change. If you are too old or too set in your ways to change maybe it’s time for you to collect unemployment because guess what, the next company you work for will also change at some point! Be part of the change instead of part of the dead weight.

Hard fact. Numbers are down and no raises again for 2018.

THAT is a FACT. You keep working your ars off for a company that could give two sh ts about you.

Oh wait I forgot unless you are the selected salary workers who get bonuses when the company claims not to to have money to give to their employees. Will never understand this company.

Follett HR is posting on this site to counter the honest negative opinions of the company. Just as they put "fake news" reviews on Glassdoor. Follett made its bed, and unfortunately they don't like laying in it. Nah Nah, Hey Hey Hey Goodbye.

Follett deserves every bit of criticism about management it gets. Its textbook management philosophy is a disaster. Look up "Retalon" in past posts and how the warehouse is pumped to the bursting point with obsolete inventory. And how the HO constantly distorts reporting to make stores seem like they're ordering too many books for a semester, then realizing at the last second oops! You're short! Too late!

That long twisty thing, just past your colon is you small intestine. I thought you may be a little disoriented with you head stuffed up your *&@!

What you see on this board is fear. What used to be a great company has become a brutal abuser. The company has been battered itself by a changing market and consumers with whom, the company can't/won't/doesn't know how relate.

The rank and file warned management about the change in consumer behavior a long time ago. They didn't change the business. When things got bad, they took it out on front line, rank and file employees. This site memorializes the transition from being part of a very good company to having to look for a new career.

Bottom line- don't believe everything you think.

No one is complaining to you, don't think I would even seek you for help with your attitude & nastiness. If you don't like this site go read the comics in the newspaper or something else.

Former BNCollege manager here. I left the industry 5 years ago, and ran across this site while curiously looking up my former industry.

How bad is it now? I used to run a $10 million + store, and my wage budget was somewhere between 7.7-8.0%. It varied from year to year, and I don't remember the exact details. This included managerial salaries and hourly wages, but not benefits like health or employer FICA.

What are store labor costs now?

Because a whiney veteran manager was sh*t talking a bunch of people and showed this site to me. Believe me, I didn’t find it on my own.

If you are a new manager & everything is hunky-dorry, then why are you on this site?

There are no “hard” facts. No numbers. No data driven comments. All of these “hard” facts are emotional opinions coming from dramatic people. I haven’t read one comment with your alleged “Hard” facts LoL! It is all whiney complaints. Please back up your “hard” facts. And I can read and comment on anything I want, just the same as you ;)

There is nothing wrong with stating hard facts about a failing company whose leadership is running it swiftly into the ground. If you don't like the truth then don't read it.

I agree. I’m a new manager with Follett and while it’s not perfect, it’s better than where I came from (B&N)! And I’m tired of hearing veteran managers complain about the good old days. Get over it, or go complain to someone that wants your company! Leave me out of it!
