Thread regarding VMware Inc. layoffs

VMware Layoffs 2018

Things can be better, improved and stellar, especially, sure sure, because I hear that we might have job reductions and layoffs in Palo Alto.

You need to let go and move on. The CEO won’t help you as he hires the people who lay you off and he was the one who started this annual thing in the first place. I just don’t understand how people can be so oblivious to what going on over the past five years and still hang around, maybe with some mistaken belief that their product is “important”. You know what if vmw disappears tomorrow no one will die early. Keep track of what’s going on and don’t be stupid about your place in the pecking order

The executive staff are completely untrustworthy. Their EPIC mantra is hypocritical. I seriously doubt vmw will continue to be rated as one of the best companies to work for. Too often they are letting hard working people go while rewarding executives who are a disaster. Pat needs to step up and take a closer look.

Well the reality happened today - 1000+ people laid off. Very sad to see people leaving campus with their belongings and heads down in shock and dismay. 20% of marketing gone. I love Vmware but this is unacceptable.

What higher ups in EUC would you replace?

VMW is a great company, it is a shame Pat does not see how bad the EUC execs are and how they are ruining the company culture and products.

Starting last week, several employees in SDDC & CNBU affected. Not sure if disciplinary action or lay off. EUC too needs to purge powerful higher-up haters.

@Anonymous

Q: Also, do engineers get affected during layoffs

A: Yes. It all depends on the mood of the VP/GM. Nothing objective or scientific.

In Desktop EUC & Cloud BU, browner-the-nose of the employee, more likely to stay on at VMware . Not sure about others.

Any thought on how vSAN team is doing? I have an offer from them(Palo Alto location). After reading some of these comments, I am a little skeptical joining VMWare. Any info will help me decide.

AW is a pet project of higher ups. categorically, for a person angling to become yet another Indian CEO of hitech company, vmware per se. He is focussing on AW, lord knows why. AW is really a low margin, high-headache biz. Senior ops people were transferred to some other cloud team. UR right some jr. people in ops were laid off.

AW and VIDM lost many hardworking people who were mostly apolitical and focussed on work. Last heard, 1 person in PA was pursuing age discrimination class action and others were planning to join her. It has been hushed by probably out-of-court settlement. As usual more LO's in January.

Why does this site hate tor browser? Is it because google cannot record and feed poster's info to HR at companies?

Whoever they fired in AW were the new hires. Just namesake. VMware please look into this. You are simply distributing stocks and putting stake on a dead cow. There are more managers than developers.

A--holes hiring more useless a--holes but powerful spineless a--holes firing many really hard working employees working on legacy products in end-user-corrupting, oops I meant computing. A vengeful VP a--hole in PA with his head up his smelly a--hole will very soon fire good people in Cambridge, Bengaluru and PA. Your are warned.

@PLFshXp -- you are correct. Too many directors, managers and ic in product management and other "management roles". Recently, while vising PA, heard they hired several more pms who practically have nothing to do in AirWatch and WorkSpace1.

They have split some departments and few peeps moved to organizations in PA to hide waste and excess. These peeps, managers and directors are constantly unnecessarily traveling between PA and ATL and live & dine in hotels & restaurants for days every month -- no waste in that??? These folks can easily use Skype meetings to ovoid travel.

I seriously wonder how upper execs don't notice the games aw & ws1 vps are playing. Growing empires of uselessness at the cost of people doing real work. Office of newest acquisition is in expensive n'hood of SFO. They should be asked to work in PA to save $.

AW operations was slightly impacted a few months ago. Lost a few good ops to another ops team but at least most good ones are still at vmware.

Why VMware is not looking into its Airwatch operations. Very expensive business to maintain, organization is full of managers and directors. No work only fun.

The new acquisition, VeloCloud will lead to more layoffs in NSBU in January. 5% stock drop is indicative of pressure to sustain growth.

VC, Horizon, VCF and central engineering teams in PA for sure will face big cuts. Mid-level managers, directors, sr directors and vps across the board in USA are particularly vulnerable. Budgets for people in US very tight. Timing: week 2 through late January, 2018. For few weeks now VMware stock has begun to lag the market in sharp contrast to other major software vendors.
