Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Your thoughts, please, on my speculation:

My belief is that Sears will call it quits after the 2017 holiday season. Yes, I know, this is not an original thought on this board. But here's another reason it seems likely. We were told this week that Sears won't be doing as much sale pricing this season as in years past. Instead there will be more points added to SYW accounts to get people to come back for more items. This seems to be like an effort to grab what $$$ you can, and then leave people with unredeemable discounts when the company goes belly-up. But that won't really help, of course. Most consumers want instant satisfaction (savings the day they buy something), so don't expect a huge holiday season.

Those Kmart sales won't make a difference. It's just a last gasp of desperation at this point.

I don't know about sears stores but Kmart stores are having ALOT of sales this year. Once the cash back bonanza is over, the very next day a holiday blow out sale begins(similar to the summer blowout), this finishes the day before thanksgiving. The thanksgiving ad will run for three days. On the Sunday after this ad runs out they are having a BOGO sale through to Christmas. BOGO Free or BOGO 50 off on almost everything in store. So massive sales all season long.

Less sales flyers, less promotional associated with print ads = savings to the company. They already know coupons and targeted offers bring more people through the door to spend than newspaper ads and gimmicks from the 1960s.

I think we all have to remember that the people who work at corporate and are coming up with all these programs and ideas are all operating under the delusional assumption that Sears could turn everything around. None of them are aware of what the BOD is thinking.

I haven't heard details, but I'm guessing these points have a pretty quick expiration date, just like the current Cashback Bonanza. And, that being said, a lot of people think Cashback should be CASH back to them, much like a rebate. The effort to drive members away continues.

Yeah this will for sure not bring more sales for either Sears or Kmart. Just an illusion of them "getting" money back. It will fail and fail spectacularly just like this past week where they failed with the promo cards THAT NEVER GOT TO WORK!!!.

Cash grab or original plan, it doesn't matter; this will run off more customers. The ones who remain will be the low-class points freaks who already drive us crazy.

You are wrong, this is not a cash grab, this will be the new normal. This was the plan from the beginning.
