Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Is GE is a horable Company to be employed with these days??

They do no promote employees going to further their education! They are cutting tuition reimbursement!! I have already started my schooling and am locked in to GE. Now I can’t leave for 4 years or I have to pay it all back. Thanks GE I have to go to school part time prolonging my stay with your less than stellar company!

Worried and complaining for tuition paid by GE?...that's b---s---. Most of employees are worried for mortgages, growing kids, sicknes, geatting older...etc. You are no more than a moron millenial whinning while there's people that is really in troubles for being shown the exit. Show some empathy.

Hi, just curious OP - is this for the leadership programs? Which one in particular? The retention agreements in general are terrible. I went through a program before they instituted them.

If it helps, I've heard that the retention agreements are not really enforceable. I haven't heard of them actually bothering to go after anyone who has left the company. It's not worth the legal fees.

Also, life after GE is great! Get out while you can.

3 part answer.

1) Read the fine print in your contract see if you can get out of it. Probably not, they like to stick it to you.

2) Try to voluntarily get yourself laid off, or even involuntarily then they break the contract not you. Be careful not to get fired for misconduct, that will be a condition in the contract.

3) F_ck it, just find another company that also has tuition reimbursement, especially if you are less than half way through the tuition.

Example: You have completed 30% of your schooling. You stay with GE, you are stuck and you pay the other 70%. If you leave and the new company will pay for the 70%, then you are not stuck with GE and only pay 30% out of pocket back to GE. You only pay this back if GE exercises the right to get it back which they may not because of their recent actions. Either way, it may be awhile before you pay it back.

I think this spelling error is taking away from the bigger problems GE has right now. Or could this spelling error mistake mimics the mis management of GE’s current leadership! Or this spelling error could have been a spell check error just like GE’s leadership error of running the company into the ground. Maybe this spelling error is a reminder of the current leadership is not perfect either; but blame the blue collar workers for the mismanagement errors on a daily basis! I think this spelling error was done on purpose! Thanks for reading and leaving comments to all who got the point of my thread.

Thanks Again

Oh but there are companies that still pay for full tuition reimbursement and ask for nothing in return. Look around, they are closer than you think.

Self entitled much? Seems to me you should be thankful GE paid the tuition they did, and get over it. Most companies will not reimburse tuition these days. If it irks you that badly, leave and pay GE's investment back, or try to get yourself layed off.

All of you people picking on someone's spelling is symptomatic of what GE's issues are. Focus on the big issue.

GE went from a positive tangible book value (without Goodwill etc) to a negative book value. This is why GE is in a fix. This makes it tough to increase cash flow without cutting investments and heads.

I think "spelt" is a horrible spelling of "spelled". Never did understand UK English.

I can attest to the fact that there is life after GE. I was with the company a long time and was ultimately shown the door. Was I devastated? You bet I was. I was working non-stop and giving the company everything I had. GE became a very political place, maybe it always was, but I saw more favoritism in the last few years than I had the entire previous decade. Jobs were taken a way from people who deserved to stay. But of course, if your boss had a friend they wanted to save, it was all over for the hard working, knowledgeable employee. They will get the boot too, it's only a matter of time.

GE was a great company. Can they rebuild from this crisis? It is still to be seen. If you get your walking papers, don't be crushed. There are some really great jobs and companies that are hiring. There is life after GE!

Unions are awesome for jobs. Just look at how well they helped Detroit.

GE Power Devision- Our management treats the union like bag horse manure. They try hard to blame the union on the floor for running out of parts. They try to blame the union over guys having no work for 3 days like we order materials or schedule production flow. Then they give us hell when our production percentage is down because we had no material to work. They pass the buck to us on the floor with contacts. When it was their fault. The union is a joke in Schenectady, they have no hand to play. The company has them in the company’s pocket. Playing everyone in Schenectady. I really hope Flannery shuts down GE power in Schenectady! There is life after GE the 6 years I was there I saw the place get worse and worse with each management change. When I left the bar Shop mangers and production managers are such egotistical, power hungry, inconsiderate, people. They treat the floor like dog manure. From Cell leader down they get the title and messed up the whole floor and blame us. They don’t care about quality! They only care about numbers! I am glad I left the people I talk to tell me they should close 273 and kill the legacy and history. Instead of the company being more humble and working with the floor/union they do the opposite of what the floor/union use to say. Now no one helps management at all!!! And I am glad!!! Life after GE is better than you guys think!
