Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Which groups at Intel are the worst waste of money and resources?

I can think of a few candidates:

VPG

SSG

iCDG

IT

HR

Any thoughts?

Standards fell almost everywhere. Meeting and Politics Engineering to the extent that the ones doing it live in detached reality.

Fewer and fewer good people, while semi and not competent are multiplying.

Very few would pass re-interview if done at industry standard way.

ICDG and NDG (products?),

PSD (AMT or Swiss cheese of spy on me secret backdoor ME processor, vPro moniker of marketing b.s. nothingness),

Automotive (no IP, FPGA and what else?),

CCG (PC whaaat? Apple and AMD closing in, too many b.s. projects and teams)

@1qkn - Most of the SSG engineers don' t know jack about SW either. Mechanical, chemical engineers, etc. Why the fck are they doing software? Because a fake tech company like Intel can't hire true software engineers from top schools. They go to real tech companies: Google, Facebook, etc.

IT MIT budgets are hidden within manufacturing and other umbrellas, therefore hard to see directly how much exactly do they spend. But looking at the amount of international travels on biz class for large amount of MIT and IT staff on a regular basis, and the many expensive dinners, drinking sessions, expensive international IT managers training at expensive hotels like Marriott SC, not surprised IT and MIT blow lots of moolah!

VIIV comes to mind as another hyped up nonsense that failed miserably

At least half of SSG managers know little about software, no experience on software development.

Is this inflation adjusted?

Intel has been doing what looks like in hindsight stoopid stuff for years. I remember when the current president of Global Capital Management LLC (look him up) was part of ICG and went on a $5B+ acquisition spree at the turn of the century which basically was just burning using cash as charcoal briquettes ... I still remember the stupid little trophy award someone in finance got for closing one of those acquisitions (it was in the trash when they left Intel). Anyone remember the IXP line? Anyone remember how we were going to commoditize the comms market - "Building block supplier to the Internet" - much to the chagrin of Cisco?

ProShare?

Itanium?

Or how about WiMAX?

Or how about Larabee? It used to be a graphics project before they figured out it blew chunks and pivoted to create MIC products (which also blow chunks).

How about wrap dollars around WiFi chips and market the bejezzus out of Centrino?

Or how about Active Management Technology (AMT)? You know, the product feature which is a winner because we didn't lose as much. You know when you have a winner when the original name shares the same name as a pimple treatment (Proactive). On the positive side, at least the NSA told us about the 9 ways to Sunday it could be hacked and let us fix it before it became our own Experian.

At least Intel still tries.

What I think it has lost is the undying focus on engineering execution and delivering results. I don't believe management cares or understands this however. They seem more focused on shiny objects.

IOTG has been a very expensive and redundant branch of SMG.

It's better to ask which Intel group IS helping make money. Only server design as far as I know.
